A lot of new players when first arriving to Splinterlands and find that they like the game and want to invest in cards immediately ask on discord or other social media platforms "what cards should I invest in as a beginner?" or some form of that. What if the answer was right in front of you and free to access anytime? Crazy huh?

Top Battles

When you login to your account the front page lists your (20) most recent battles. Then next to your battle log is the option of "top battles" which can be broken down to all five leagues in game. Each league will show the top (20) ranked battles that happened most recently based on players' leagues.

Since I am currently in the gold league I will look into some of the battles fought by top players as listed in the "top battles" list.

Such a battle as shown above provides glimpse of hope that not using any Chaos Legions cards means defeat. In addition I have learned how to setup a magic formation with earth splinter if I ever encounter such a situation.

The list of battles in "top battles" update every 3 hours or so for all leagues. A great learning tool for those new and existing players. For new they can look into bronze and silver leagues to see what are some of the most common used cards by top players. For instance in bronze league it appears often than not top players use 7 mana legendary summoners. While in silver leagues again most 7 mana summoners but there were also plenty of Selenia Sky and Mylor Crowling summoners used.

One of the drawbacks with "top battles" is the potential of only seeing one or two top player's battles since they rank at or near the top hence their battles can have very similar formations even though it may not be a majority preference. However it is still helpful to observe and learn even if the list of battles is by one or two top players since it also means you are currently learning what the best are doing to winning.

Leader Board

To check for top players in each league is to click on "Leader Board" on the right of "Top Battles". In the former you will see in each league the current top 100 players. This is used for players to measure themselves compare to top players and see how far they can improve during the seasons.

Conclusions

One last function that gamers can use to learn from top players is in the battle log page you can type in any player that is on Splinterlands. Ideally if you search for top players you can see there latest 20 battles and be able to learn more about how the player plays in addition to know what cards are most used by best players in the game.

Next time whether you are a beginner or veteran it helps to watch how others play and learn from their successes and failures. It will likely help improve your own game that much more.

Until next time thanks for reading!!!
