I prefer Earth, but water splinter does have some nice reach ability cards for a reasonable price. I think the Earth splinter is missing a good affordable reach ability card.

I like Earth better also, I think I am better with Earth and Life over all the other splinters.
I am experimenting with Life Splinter in the practice battles, it is rapidly becoming clear that a tank in the first position and a tank heal card buried in the 6th or 7th position can make for a great team.
