Splinterlands - My Favourite Silver League CL Epics

I've done Commons and I've done Rares already for this series and there are two to go. I will likely od the legendaries a little later, as I want to wait for the remaining airdrops to be revealed, but it should come out around then. No promises on that though, my content is very much based on whatever I feel like writing at the point I sit down and open Peakd!

This is pretty much a universal intro for these at this point, so let's go over it again: For the top 5 I consider both the price, as well as the power level, but the latter is weighted much higher - I would only suggest a weaker card if it is VERY undervalued and vice versa: I'll only skip a strong card if it's vastly overpriced. All this is my opinion of course. Epics only get to level 3 in Silver, so it takes 10bcx to max one card - not too bad, it means we can max most CL epics at between 15-25$ and it could get a little lower still!

There aren't THAT many Epics (only 17), so I will only do 1 honorable mention before we dive into the top 5! Keep in mind nearly all of the epics are worth their price! There are very few weak ones.

  • Insidious Warlock - Recharge is considered as one of the weakest abilities in the game - but much of this comes from how highly it is costed and how easy it is to stop it with a single point of armor. Insidious Warlock circumvents that by being a magic attacker, being able to always deal the 6 damage unless the monster has Void Armor.

1. Forgotten One

Forgotten One at level one is insane in Noxious Fumes and in general just a great heavy hitter. An expensive tank that does very well in any melee ruleset just as well is fantastic in Fire, which happens to have access to Tarsa's melee buff.

Now imagine all this, but on top of a great statline and Immunity, you also get Retaliate - well, that's exactly what you get for having a Silver-maxed Forgotten One. It can pretty much solo a whole team in low-mana, it is great in Noxious Fumes.. Just a great pick-up overall.

2. Magi Necrosi

If you're playing Death a lot, you cannot make it without Magi Necrosi. Camouflage is a fantastic ability, as showcased by Doctor Blight, while Snipe is great at getting around those pesky tanks. All this combined just means you can take out a powerful backline unit in just one or two hits.

By leveling to level 3 and getting that 3rd point of magic attack, you are even more likely to make it a one-hit KO on the backline! Three damage magic Snipe is nothing to scoff at, especially against units with armor and the Camouflage will protect the card from any Sneak or Snipe as well, making it the ideal backline unit!

3. Igor Darkspear

Igor is my personal favourite on this list. 2 mana for 2 ranged attack is a great deal and even though there are 3 such options among CL Epics, I like Darkspear more than both Weirding Warrior and Acid Shooter. That is because of the higher health than the Death unit, and the lack of Scattershot which can help you focus your damage on the frontline.

I already find level 1 quite strong, as 5 health in the back with Kelya's armor buff can give additional protection for your Axemaster or other high damage backliners, but that extra attack at level 3 is where Igor shines - all his stats are quite high and even without an ability, he is a great filler card for when you are left with just a bit of mana, but want to get more concentrated frontline damage.

4. Grund

Since the launch of Chaos Legion, Grund has been considered the top epic. It is all for a reason, but likely he was not as good as the price suggested. It went down recently to be more in line with the other Epics and now it is much more reasonable. Grund's Double Attack with high health makes him an incredible frontliner who can take out the opposing frontline in no time - and is even better in melee rulesets like Super Sneak or Melee Mayhem.

His level 3 gives him one extra point of attack.. And extra attack synergizes incredibly well with Double Attack! Grund can work very well with Scarred Llama Mage for the Last Stand, as well as simply in most Earth teams that have enough of a mana cap. Definitely pick him up while he's cheap, as he might be quite expensive in a few months when CL sells out!

5. Tusk the Wide

image.png

Fire's weakness in low levels of play tends to be magic, with the lack of a good anti-magic tank aside from Caladuum - a pretty expensive one. Tusk the Wide costs merely 6 mana for a Void ability on top of 12 health. While the offensive capabilities are lacking, with both 1 attack and speed, it is a meatshield that will not disappoint you if you are sure magic is the choice.

On top of that, at level 3 it becomes more serviceable offensively with a second point of attack. This leads to being a strong alternative to Living Lava in Reverse Speed, especially seeing as there is a lot of low-speed magic attackers that might be played against you.

Epics will likely be the one rarity I will be more hesitant to fully max for Silver - many of them are fairly situational or work in specific teams. I believe these are the best buys as general sale comes and hopefully reduces card value just a tiny bit further for a short window of time. Make sure to be quick at picking them up, but also try not to overpay!
