Splinterlands Weekly Challenge | Dhampir Stalker

The Dhampir Stalker. A half-vampire from the Death Splinter with a powerful ranged attack that can never miss, because of its True Strike Ability. They also do double damage against the last standing monster on the enemy team, because of its Deathblow Ability.

Because of its high mana cost (7 mana), I usually only use it in battles with a mana cap of 25 and higher.

Their health and speed are decent, which makes sense considering their half super-humanity.

Half-vampire, the Dhampir are faster and stronger than normal humans. Most have taken to a mercenary lifestyle, never quite welcome with vampires or humans. The Stalker is adept at tracking their prey, then dispatching the target with a silent and perfectly-placed arrow from the shadows.

Hmm. How does being a half-vampire work though. Do they drink blood only half the time, then. And fried eggs and bacon the rest of the time? Hope I get the chance to get a closer look at them when I move to Praetoria, cause this definitely should be interesting to get a deeper understanding of.

Ruleset, analysis and battle

29 Mana battle with rulesets Holy Protection and Spreading Fury. Good. We can use some fast melee monsters in the front, that with their extra spead as a result of Enrage, should make them near impossible to hit. And then we'll put the strong Stalker attack somewhere in the back.

In general with these ruleset, fast melee monsters are fun as they get almost ridicilous speeds when Enrage is triggered. This strategy of course, will leave us vulnerable to magic attacks, because these attacks never miss, so we're gonna have to try and address that somehow as well.

Team lineup:
  • Summoner: Thaddius Brood (lvl 6)
  • Pos 1: Pelacor Deceiver (lvl 8)
  • Pos 2: Silent Sha-vi (lvl 8)
  • Pos 3: Dhampir Stalker (lvl 6)
  • Pos 4: Skeleton Assassin (lvl 6)
  • Pos 5: Darkest Mage (lvl 3)
  • Pos 6: Haunted Spider (lvl 6)
Strategy:
  • Thaddius will nerf magic attacks, our biggest vulnerability this match.
  • The Pelacor Mercenary is fairly fast, and has the Flying ability, which makes him more difficult to hit. Combined with Backfire, this should be an ideal monster for the front position, as backfire will deal damage back if opponent attack misses.
  • The even faster Silent Sha-vi with Sneak attack and Cripple.
  • Then the Stalker. Its 4 ranged damage attack with True Strike should be able to do some decent damage to our opponent.
  • The weak but very fast Skeleton Warrior will hopefully damage the rear with its fairly strong Sneak attack. It's Poison ability in addition will hopefully hit a weak-point in the enemy lines.
  • Another weak monster, Darkest Mage, is mainly there in the back to stop enemy tank healing with its Affliction ability.
  • And finally the Haunted Spider. Double the chance of inflicting some poison damage on our enemy.

Time for some action:

This battle makes it very clear why it's important to use melee monsters in battles with the Spreading Fury ruleset. My Pelacor Merc ended up with a 5 melee attack and 6 speed (+ its innate Flying), dealing some crazy damage to the anti magic tank on opponents team.

The Dhampir Stalker also had a role to play, taking out several key monsters on the enemy team.

Thanks for reading! I don't really play the Death Splinter much, so any chance to spend some time with it is always welcome. Until next week, friends.

Side-note; Use of SplinterGlossary/LeoGlossary links

You may have noticed that most of the Splinterlands terms I use in these articles are also links that point to entries in the @leoglossary project. You can read more about this exciting project in one of their latest official updates, which should also give you a better understanding of why I'm putting these links in my Splinterlands articles (and why you should consider doing the same).
