Splinterlands Weekly Challenge | Diemonshark

The Diemonshark quickly became my go-to tank in water teams after the arrival of the Chaos Legion. He's quick, high health, a bunch of armor and a decently strong attack. Paired with Kelya, he's the ideal tank in a water team, especially when it's based on swiftness.

It's a terrifying looking creature though. I definitely wouldn't want this guy tickling my feet when out on a swim. The Lore has this to say about them;

Diemonsharks travel alone throughout the stars searching for prey and territory. They are fearsome beasts with lightning-fast reflexes. Diemonsharks are extremely territorial and attack any creature that encroaches on their land. The Chaos Legion trains them as transports for equipment. Since they can travel by air, ground, or sea, they are ideally suited for the task.

Wait, what? .. They can fly too?! Well, there goes my planned romantic couples' picnics at my Praetoria Land Plots..

Ruleset, analysis and battle

Let's see, the Target Practice and Spreading Fury rulesets. 19 Mana, four splinters available.

Since the Spreading Fury ruleset gives the Enrage Ability to all monsters (and Melee monsters has most to gain from this ability) you either go for a melee team, or an anti-melee team. Considering that the Earth Splinter is active this round, there's a good chance that the opponent will pick Mylor for their summoner (which is anti-melee).

But apparently I can only think that far ahead in retrospect.. so a melee team it is lol

Team lineup:
  • Summoner: Kelya Frendul (lvl 6)
  • Pos 1: Diemonshark (lvl 6)
  • Pos 2: Tide Biter (lvl 5)
  • Pos 3: Torrent Fiend (lvl 3)
  • Pos 4: Pelacor Bandit (lvl 8)
  • Pos 5: Creeping Ooze (lvl 5)
  • Pos 6: Golden Chicken (lvl 3)
Strategy:
  • Kelya will provide extra speed to my already fast monsters (+1 Speed) and some extra shield that should soften the blow from the massive enraged melee attacks I'll most likely encounter.
  • The Diemonshark serves as the tank. Combined with Enrage, he'll hopefully bite hard and where it hurts.
  • Closely behind is the Tide Biter, with his Reach and Reflection Shield ability. I don't expect any explosions during this particular match, so the main point of him in this setup will be his cheap price (only 3 mana) + dealing melee damage past the tank, with his strong 3 damage melee attack (high for its mana cost).
  • The Torrent Fiend is mostly there to put space between the tanks and the Pelacor Bandit that will be doing the Sneak attacks, hopefully thinning out oppnonents rear troop.
  • At the back, we have some Creeping Ooze, to Slow the enemy team down. The Golden Chicken is mostly there to provide some buffer for the Creeping Ooze.

Let it ride:

Haha okay. This battle did not go as planned in any way, except that I won. I definitely didn't think things all the way through on this one. There's also a possibility I won simply because of RNG.

I think the two key factors that sealed the outcome was my Pelacor Bandits' sneak attack, combined with Kelya's +1 armor. The opponent simply had to attack too many times to deal with all that armor on all those cheap monsters.

The Diemonshark once again proves why he's one of my big favorites in Chaos Legion... as long as he keeps a good and long distance to my personal space xD. Thank you for reading!
