Splinterlands Weekly Challenge | Djinn Apprentice

The Djinn Apprentice is a monster from the Chaos Legion set. Even if he's under training, his magic attacks can be devastating in the right team and ruleset.

He's certainly not the most popular monster in my collection, probably because of his lack of special abilities, but sometimes he truly does come in handy. Hopefully I'll come across such a situation this week.

I've been trying to stay on top of the Splinterlands Lore since the Chaos Legion arrived, but I must admit my failure in this as of late. From what I can recall, the Djinn is a race that has inhabited the Splinterlands for a long long time, long before the arrival of the Chaos Legion. Djinns are some sort of spirit beings, that have found their homes and allegiances across all splinters.

Djinn Apprentices prefer to study under more powerful djinn to hone their magic. While not as strong or cunning as others of their kin, they are just as dangerous to untrained warriors

The Djinn Apprentices kneeled before the powerful form of Djinn Inferni. The heat of the volcano was immense, but it did not affect these beings of fire and magic. When the Chaos Legion arrived, it had a diverse effect on the djinn. Not a unified race by any means, some chose to align with the Chaos Legion, some chose to defend against it, and others chose to go their own path and leave it all behind. Djinn Apprentices chose to align themselves with Djinn Inferni, believing in his mission and his vision.

So the Djinn Apprentices apparently strive to become – or at least have as their role models, the Djinn Inferni. And while not as strong as them, they're still a serious enemy to encounter.

Ruleset, analysis and battle

Ooohhhhh! 56 Mana, Close Range and Aim True. This one's screaming for Yodin.

In a battle like this, it's all about dealing as much damage as humanly possible, as fast as possible, i.e. a ton of fire monsters with high damage and high speed. Because some of these monsters have quite low hp, a big tank with Taunt Ability in the front is usually a good idea.

Team lineup:
  • Summoner: Yodin Zaku (lvl 2)
  • Pos 1: Magnor (lvl 2)
  • Pos 2: Tinderlock (lvl 4)
  • Pos 3: Lava Launcher (lvl 3)
  • Pos 4: Djinn Apprentice (lvl 4)
  • Pos 5: Countess Sinash (lvl 2)
  • Pos 6: Ash Mirage (lvl 4)
Strategy:
  • I wish I had a higher level Yodin, but my lvl 2 one will have to do. This summoner gives +1 to Life, +1 to Ranged Attacks, and Blast Ability to all monsters, meaning my high damage monsters should be able to do some serious damage all over the place.
  • Magnor will serve as the tank. His Taunt ability will keep damage away from my low health monsters in the back, at least for a while.
  • The Tinderlock serves as both a damage dealer and a second tank with its 9 initial lives. It will also nerf opponent's magic attacks.
  • Lava Launcher with an even more powerful ranged attack and decent speed, plus it's strong shields, is a nice backup-tank if it should come to that.
  • Then comes the Djinn Apprentice with its reasonably strong Magic attack and weak health. Hopefully he will help the rest of the team bypass some shields with his powerful fire magic.
  • Countess Sinash for some extra speed for all monsters, plus her strong ranged attack. Another bonus with her, is the Opportunity Ability, which hopefully will make the blast spread damage in several directions each attack.
  • And finally the Ash Mirage; 5 speed and 3 ranged damage + Headwinds Ability which nerfs opponents Ranged attacks!! I actually think it's the first time I use this terrifying creature from the Riftwatchers in a battle. That's some crazy stats indeed...

Let's see it then, this clash of the titans:

My opponent put a high health taunt monster in the back, which was a good strategy, but my crazy high damage monsters easily killed it, well helped by the Djinn Apprentice. In short, this team was a complete overkill, they didn't stand a chance. Even at a meagre level 2, Yodin will reign supreme... most of the time.

It's always fun to put together teams like this with almost no Mana cap, only to see the opponent obliterated in 2-3 turns xD

Well anyways, thanks for reading! Until next time, friends.
