BATTLE MAGE SECRETS: EVEN STEVENS

This battle that I'm sharing is a losing one, but it's really nice to analyze and identify the mistakes in order to improve card combinations in the future. In the words of Richard Bach, 'That's what learning is, after all; not whether we win or lose the game, but how we lose and how we've changed because of it, and what we take away from it that we never had before, to apply to other games. Losing, in a curious way, is winning.

The battle that I'm sharing was played under the rules of a 3-battle rule set, which included super sneak, back to basics, and even stevens. The focus of this week's Mage Secrets is even stevens, which restricts the use of only even mana monsters on the battlefield. Below is the image depicting the even stevens rule.

THE 3 BATTLE RULES...
Alongside even stevens, the battle rules also included super sneak and back to basics. Super sneak allows monsters to attack their enemies from the rear, while back to basics means all monsters lose their abilities. This means that in my battle, I had to rely solely on the summoner's ability and the battle rules. Other requirements include a maximum mana of 30, and the elements allowed for battle are fire, water, earth, and dragon.

BATTLE LINE UP...
The battle was between Kelya Fendul and Lux Vega. Below is our full lineup. Lux Vega has chosen all his monsters from the water element, while I have picked 2 from the neutral element combined with water element.

BATTLE ANALYSIS

Below is what I've learned from this battle.

  1. Since we have even stevens as one of the battle rules, the selection of the best cards is limited to those with even mana cost. Additionally, considering the combination with back to basics, it is crucial to choose monsters with high damage. As we can see in my battle, my opponent has 20 attack damage compared to my 14. If only I had better monsters with higher damage, I might have had a better chance of winning.
  2. Another advantage of my opponent is the plus 1 health buff of Lux Vega.
  3. The use of ranged attacks by my opponent gave them the advantage in the later part of the game. My opponent had 3 monsters with ranged attacks, which dealt considerable damage. The super sneak rule does not affect ranged monsters, allowing them to focus their damage on my first-position monsters. As you can see in round 5, my damage was distributed, with my second-position lineup prioritizing attacks on the opponent's rear monsters due to the super sneak ruleset.
