Splinterlands: Experiment before Reward Changes

The Splinterlands ecosystem has continued to develop and evolve and having been a part of it now for almost four years has been an interesting journey. Every now and then I stop to reflect on how I have engaged within the ecosystem to try different experiments. I have always enjoyed playing and with the exception of trying a bot for a short period of time, I have played every Season since day one. However, given my evolution towards an investor here, I thought I would give a full rental approach a try.

This has always divided me as I miss playing when I do not although the fierce competition as of late has also led to frustration. Combining the frustration with the slowdown in rewards in addition to the completion of my Reward Card Collection, I now have little to play for in reality. Since the new ranked reward system was incoming, this would be the best time to get a Season or two for experimenting.

Given how easy it is to get cards sorted these days given the development of @peak-monsters, it only really took less than an hour of my time to get them going. I have been using their feature to tag my main playing cards which are the highest level in most cases so it was easy to select them in one shot. I then just undelegated them from my playing account and immediately listed them on the rental market. Another great feature is to watch the battlechain to see how quickly they often get rented. I think over 50% were rented within 30 minutes of listing them.

I immediately saw the difference when renting my maxed collection as the full potential of my daily DEC more than doubled. I had my doubts regarding the demand for a max set but within the first three days of putting the rentals on the market, I also more than double my daily DEC income. Definitely more positive than I expected although I was also reminded of the trade off; I could not participate in Guild Brawls. Luckily, I had some travel planned so I advised the Guild of my absence so I would not be missed.

The decision will now have to be what I do once the new system comes. I will surely come back and miss the DEC income but will be happy to start getting new rewards along the way. It will also be fun to get more Guild Brawls going to continue to complete my Gladiator Collection as well. Another idea would be to rent myself every day to complete my quests but will need to see the new structure. As I have said, the game within the game continues to evolve here in Splinterlands!
