Splinterlands: Not Optimizing Opportunities?

My academic and professional background has made me always consider efficiencies in everything I do. My financial decisions are guided by these principals as I have to often enact them everyday with quick decisions and executing projects through there end. As I started getting into Blockchain and Crypto projects, this mentality came in handy as it allowed me to maneuver keenly in my process to allocate and accumulate capital.

Even my initial incursion into Splinterlands was guided by this principle. I recall opening 5 Alpha Packs and getting a Gold Foil Legendary Lord of Darkness. I think that moment and experience completely changed my approach as I immediately started accumulating and opening packs so I could complete my Collection. At the time, cards did not even have abilities or stats and it did not stop my process so it was not something I could explain.

After some time, it began to change as I recognize the ability to optimize while building my Collection. For example, I opted to use my funds to by individual cards instead on relying on the randomness of opening packs to build my Collection. It was a great choice given the amount of cards needing to be combined for those original Alpha and Beta editions.

However, as the community start to grow and the game expand, I feel that I am no longer focus on optimizing. It may be due to the fact that the assets have left me in a great position for the future but I fell like I am enjoying the experience of playing rather than playing the economy game. The game economy is a key part of it all so it does not mean I do not pay attention to it but I found many ways I could do better financially rather than what I do today.

For example, as a recent experiment I did showed, I could earn multiples of DEC every Season by renting my maxed cards instead of playing. While I would lose out on reward cards, the earnings could pay for the reward cards instead. I could also run bots on my extra cards to grow my rewards but have been thinking about the future when lands come so I can be ready to farm resources across the continent.

While it seems that my opportunity costs continue to rise, I feel that the fact that my assets have accumulated beyond my expectations I can now focus on enjoying the journey instead of optimizing. When I consider the addition of the SPS AirDrop over the last year, I have effectively taken my cost basis of my Collection to zero. Said another way, whatever I earn at this point makes my return infinite given the way my assets have grown. Not many projects that can really say that at the moment!
