Splinterlands Sunday: Which Way is North from Here?

Development and growth continue to come to the Splinterlands ecosystem and community as the team continues to evolve the experience for the player base. It feels as there is so much to do now that I am often finding myself overwhelmed of what to do to position my Collection for the future which continues to be encouraging given the journey we have experienced so far. Delivering on important roadmap milestone has been a key part of that although some still remain outstanding.

The latest news this past week about adding more flexibility and capability to our digital assets is amazing and was honestly unexpected. Being a blockchain and cryptocurrency enthusiast, having the ability to move my cards and DEC between the Steem and Ethereum blockchain is very promising given how interoperability is often said to be the key in future growth and adoption of the asset class. I have yet to try it as Steem remains my home but it only demonstrates how powerful our protocol in terms of technology is to build on.

On the flip side, the Seasons continue to be a tough environment to compete in. While it has been welcoming to see a large number of new players and new Collections compete, the grind does become somewhat stale after some time. I often feel like my need to get online to play and complete my Daily Quests while looking for tournaments to compete in becomes burdensome at times. Particularly when I am not the best players out there, I can get frustrated at times. I also continue to see a lot of noise of many players using multiple accounts to extract value from what has been built. I consider myself a player that is trying to leverage my Collection as much as I can but some things I read are clearly a concern; not for me, but for others potentially considering to start investing time and resources into the game.

In addition, the new cards that came from Untamed have brought some balancing issues given some of the abilities given to cards. I have always trusted that developers would find ways to balance these issues over time but despite already having multiple attempts, it seems that they have been inconsistent in their approach to deploy changes. This has added to some of the noise and while I am not close to everything happening, it seems like some large stakeholders have started selling some of the assets. This is probably what has put pressure on the value of most Cards and other assets like packs and DEC have seen declines this Season.

I continue to see the long term value being built around the ecosystem with Splinterlands as it is encouraging to see the growth and transactions happening before our eyes in a new way never seen before with Blockchain as its backbone. It is all part of building the foundation of a future where blockchain proves its value as a technology. My thoughts continue to be how can I position myself to not only take advantage of these trends but also enjoy the journey as I participate as a part of it. I believe I have built a strong Collection which I enjoy to engage with but am unsure if I have been able to do anything past that. While I have some rental income and often am able to earn by playing some tournaments, growing these streams of income is unlikely. Therefore, I find myself reflecting on which way is my “North” from here. The recent decline in prices could be an opportunity to build future potential so it is something to consider.

One item I do want to do more of is to promote the game and drive more players to the game and community. Ultimately, growth will drive value over time as it continues to build. This may also be a great time to do so as the mobile application is the next priority on the list of the developers and could be the next source of new player growth in the coming months. With growth and adoption comes demand for the assets. I am already seeing how each day the amount of DEC earned is less due to the increase in players and battle. Therefore, remaining positioned and attracting more players is a must for all of us.

My first step has been to use my free Starter Pack code I received from the Untamed Kickstarter to seek a user that could leverage the opportunity to start and experience the game and community at this pivotal time. While I did not get the interest I would have hoped for over the last two weeks, I was happy to see the interest of a user with whom I have shared other Steem experiences with. @alokkumar121 has been a user that I have always seen across the ecosystem with plenty of engagement. Therefore, I will be providing him the starter code for him to give the game a try (send me a DM via Discord to coordinate). I will make myself available to help him through the process and if he gets as involved as he does with other projects, I am willing to help him with some card delegations as well so let’s see how it goes!

The latest Season nears an end so the next couple of days will be surely be intense. I hope to continue finding a way to improve my Collection and leveraging the growth in the game into the future. I expect for the coming weeks to be interesting as opportunities may appear so more news to come as my journey in the ecosystem continues. I look forward to continuing to be a part of the community and the potential of Splinterlands! If you want to give it a try, feel free to start using my affiliate link.

They seem to have narrowed the average number of splinters you can use for each battle too, which makes it tougher, and that odds or evens cards only rule is a real pain!

Yes indeed! I also do not like the even and odds rulesets. Adding that with a limited amount of Splinters is always a pain.
