Splinterlands: Waka Promo Card for the Collection

After months of hearing rumors of a partnership with celebrities and influencers, the first of potentially many Promo cards was announced with the new Waka Spiritblade card. This represents the partnership with the famous rapper Waka Flocka which himself has been known to be interested in crypto and NFT projects. The simple fact that the game and ecosystem have been able to engage with this reach in mind, is impressive at this stage.

However, the announcement and execution did not come without some challenges. First, the decision to only mint 1,000 cards in total and the fact that they would be all max level provided challenges throughout the community. Some players that recently joined and that are not playing at the higher Divisions were tough to convince as it was just too much to put into the game without enough potential reward or benefit.

Also, the fact of a limited minting would drive FOMO and have the potential for many to actually want a copy but not have the chance to grab one. This proved to be an accurate concern as the first half of cards sold on the main website sold out in less than one minute. However, I believe that there was adequate time for everyone to participate as I had time to secure the two copies I had the resources to use for the purchase (Vouchers and SPS).

The team has started to learn about these potential partnerships and the implications for the community. The second half sold on the WAX market called AtomicHub was not as successful as the team had to bring them back to the Splinterlands site for them to be sold or burned. These learnings will prove useful for future promotions but have also provide us in the community some knowledge. SPS continues to be the foundation of building value which continues to encourage me despite the price action.
