Share Your Battle: Deeplurker

avatar

The monster featured in this week’s battle challenge is the Deeplurker. It is a common Water Splinter monster released in the recent Chaos Legion edition of cards.

The Deeplurker is a monster with the Opportunity ability. It has a higher mana cost and higher attack than most opportunity monsters. So the card can be a bit risky to use. For example, if your opponent has shields or several monsters with very tiny health, this card can be very inefficient for the high mana cost.

A battle with the ‘All monsters have the blast ability’ ruleset seemed like a fun opportunity to showcase the Deeplurker. There are always a lot of different possibilities when all the monsters that can attack the backline will all have the blast ability. There is even the potential for the blast to do damage in two directions.

So here is my battle with the ‘All monsters have the blast ability’ ruleset. The link to the battle is below:

It is a 19 mana match with 3 splinters to choose from: Fire, Water and Dragon. I of course picked the Water Splinter so I could use the Deeplurker. I chose the Kelya Frendul summoner to add shields and speed. I am not expecting much of a magic attack from my opponent because the Earth splinter is not a playable option.

For my lineup, I chose the Diemonshark tank because it has a lot of shielding and I’m not expecting a strong magic attack. In my backfield I placed my Deeplurker with a Furious Chicken on one side of it and a Creeping Ooze on the other.

Start of game / Round 1

My opponent chose the same splinter and summoner as me. For our lineups, we have both used one identical monster, the Deeplurker. So this week’s battle challenge monster ended up being used on both teams.

Round 2

My Furious Chicken was defeated in the first round and my Creeping Ooze is close to being gone. At least my tank is still in good shape. I felt lucky to have connected on two hits in the first round given that those two monsters on my opponent’s side are hard to hit.

Round 3

My Creeping Ooze has been defeated and this will make my opponent’s tank even more difficult to hit.

I managed two hits out of two attempts to my opponent’s tank in the third round and won the battle. This was very lucky considering the fact that I only had a 35% chance of hitting it with each attack.

I correctly predicted that I would not be facing a strong magic attack from my opponent. I was well set up against an opponent without a strong magic attack. I had lots of shielding and some decent speed. My opponent also had a little bit of shielding and lots of speed with monsters that had a low probability of being hit. But it ended up being a match where there surprisingly did not end up being very many misses by either side. So my large amount of shielding ended up being the difference and I was able to claim victory.
