Chaos Legion Pre-Sale Event Reaction

I'm currently 2 months in the game. This is MY PERSONAL perspective about the presale chaos packs, my estimate and my views. Please exercise respect in each other's views and remember that this is all just a moo point.

What is Chaos Legion?

Packs.PNG

It is an event where Splinterlands introduces new packs to the game. There is currently an ongoing presale for it where you can get one for 1 voucher + $4 (in credits, dec or sps).

There are also other exclusive bonuses when you buy one or if you are the top purchasers. You can get more information by clicking here.

Note: The information seems lacking on the mobile app so I suggest using a desktop when viewing the link above.

How do you get vouchers?

Water Divider.jpg

You can get voucher by staking SPS. For every SPS staked, you can get a specific amount of voucher token per day for 37 days starting today.

I have not confirmed it but since 'voucher' is currently a token, you may also be able to buy it from another person or probably in the hive engine.

With that out of the way, let's go to the crux of the problem for me.

The Crux

Water Divider.jpg

Really cool title in my opinion.

So, I really love the game first and foremost. The problem is the game and developer has a good way of making you feel not welcome as a newbie in the game.

Same goes for this event.

As they said, "Splinterlands is not a free to play game. It is a play2earn game." Which I totally agree. Any NFT is an investment. However, every investment should have some sort of appreciation for newbies in order for it to flourish. That is my own personal opinion.

Now, let's discuss the event.

Voucher for Chaos Legion Presale

Water Divider.jpg

Just to make my point, I did some computations. I never withdrew any SPS that I got from their daily airdrop since I started two months ago.

So far, I got...

airdrop sps.PNG

So, I did some computation based on how much I got voucher token today.

sps voucher.PNG

12.985 sps = 0.002 per day
= 0.074 sps after 37 days.

  • How much sps do you need to stake to get a voucher?

If we multiply it by 2,
0.004 per day * 37 = 0.148

If we multiply it by 10,
0.04 per day * 37 = 1.48

That means, in order to get at least 1 voucher after 37 days, you need to stake,

12.985 * 2 * 10 = 259.7 sps or 260 SPS or $236.

Is it worth it?

Water Divider.jpg

Yes, you can use your "useless" potions that you can get from daily quests so you can get better rarity of cards.

Those potions are useful but for someone who does not invest and just purely enjoy the game, they would seem to be useless. That's how I view it. I was honestly expecting to buy a pack or two in order to get use for the potions but that's out of the window for now.

Water Divider.jpg

What could have been done?

Water Divider.jpg

I do agree on the voucher airdrop event. This is to assure no one monopolizes the packs. However, the issue is that NO NEWBIE are able to get the card. We might as well just rent the card on the market once everything ends which is a big bummer.

I, as a new player, would appreciate if they did the airdrop however, they should've done like a free 1 voucher for everyone.

Yes, we know that there are people who have multiple accounts but giving 1 voucher would still prove helpful to encourage everyone to invest on their airdrop.

As my computation, it's discouraging to stake 260 sps or $236, wait for 37 days to get one voucher. That's a lot of pain in a lot of ways.

Another step would've been to have a 1 voucher give away after investing like $20 worth of sps or something.

Water Divider.jpg

What we can look forward to?

Water Divider.jpg

This is only a presale but a disappointing one for someone who is new at the game. However, I still look for a better tomorrow.

Once presale ends, I hope that we are able to purchase a few packs. It may not be discounted but still, it's a decent price and a good source for powering up.

I hope that in the future, in events like this, there would be more agency for new players to join. A more newbie friendly event is appreciated as well because this encourages new investors in the game.

Lastly, and this is very personal for me. I hope that the devs would avoid saying stuff like "If you are looking for a free-to-play game where you can earn unlimited-quantity in-game assets that cannot be transferred or sold without having to purchase anything (or very little), there are thousands of fantastic such games in the various app stores that you can try."

It is the same as saying, "If you don't like this job, you can apply to others." The reason why I said it was personal for me, is because I love the game, and I experienced that being said to me irl. I understand that it is a not a free to play game but that statement can and should be redacted as it really does not explain or specify anything important.

Water Divider.jpg

That's all for now.

Water Divider.jpg

I would like to apologize in advance if I were to offend anyone however, this is my personal opinion on the matters. I would apologize but I will not retract any of my opinions.

I still find the game very interesting and even if discouraging, I still love playing it. The balance on the card and gameplay is good and even if it is play2earn and not free2play, it's not so much that it is pay2win.

Yes it sucks for low level investors and newcomers that's for sure, but I guess taking the long term view, everything will eventually be available on the secondary market.

I'd suggest just stacking and staking as much SPS as you can going forwards, it's likely that value is going to flow towards it in the long term.

I agree. In long term, it would be profitable for sure. I'm just ranting/complaining now because I'm new. lol. I would say, my reaction is normal.

It's like when someone give you a shirt or something. You complain at first but then in the future, it becomes one of your faves.
