Silver Chaos Legion Tournament - Consistent Results

I have started playing some anytime tournaments, and they've been very fun! I enjoy these much more than the regular single-elimination tournaments where you have to play at a certain hour. It never feels good to schedule a time to play, maybe even rent some cards, and be out of it in the first couple of rounds. For me, these have been much more satisfying to play.

This time I'm doing a report on a Silver level tournament, Chaos Legion only.

image.png

This was the prize pool:

image.png

In these tournaments, each person plays X games in a 24 hours period. The top 40% advances to the next phase, which works exactly the same in the next 24 hours period. That means you only need enough time to submit all teams, twice, in two days!

Tournament Report

I currently have all Chaos Legion uncommon summoners maxed for Silver. There are still a few cards I haven't maxed yet, but I'm close. I'm mostly missing the Dragon Splinter.

Day 1:

Match 1:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_ntdEADD6WvklztDqr0jz&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

A big level difference made this game very easy. It wasn't necessary at all, but it was still fun watching Diemonshark trigger multiple Tramples due to Stampede.

image.png

Match 2:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_2BRu8FkpNOfsY7K1rEba&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Similar teams, but different position on the taunt and they had Mycelic Infantry and I had Queen Mycelia as another Magic user, which I think was the better option in Equalizer rule set. I also had some level advantage on some monsters.

image.png

Match 3:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_B5w7BvULCibNi2WpyBV5&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Another game with a big difference in levels so it wasn't close.

image.png

Match 4:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_8gOM2VzafkAoVMeuNFuC&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

I went with the Fire Splinter because I didn't feel like I had enough mana to use Water on a rule set that wants you to have as many monsters as possible. My Death Splinter is still lacking a few maxed cards so it wasn't a great option. I couldn't have won that mirror. Fire didn't do any better as I was destroyed.

image.png

Match 5:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_k2hmijMEVKG4nUaykij5&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Very close game, but the trample surprised me and that was the deciding factor. I could still have won with a miss in that last attack.

image.png

Match 6:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_Eief2XUMCPyahLBk7IMX&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

They went with Grund but no healer. This meant that my Queen Mycelia got much more value out of the armor, as well. In the end, having more Magic proved better than Grund.

image.png

Match 7:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_TYxCpPGIU0nUCntPOg2y&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Silver level deck against a Novice level one. This was impossible to lose.

image.png

Match 8:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_sjjPIWJqVHe4p5djkarz&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

There's a level difference here but it didn't come into play. They had no magic, so Grum worked the same way as a level 1 and my Forgotten One didn't even get a single attack in. Grum went to town and destroyed everything.

image.png

Match 9:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_daXWq5TXp8W041jrWYZi&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Almost exact same teams. They just had 2 cards maxed that I didn't and the position was different. I don't know if I choose better positions or if I was just lucky, but I ended up winning.

image.png

Match 10:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_7rMffarnhOuVUSzKm9mp&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Their team was simply better and Goblin Psychic being level 5 and attacking before mine was also pretty good.

image.png

Match 11:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_0M5ACSKo8q5sDmJ6Yg1G&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Supply Runner with Swiftness was super key to my victory here. Very close game, but getting the attack and trample with my Diemonshark because of that won me the game.

image.png

8-3 on the first day is a pretty good result.

s

Day 2:

Match 1:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_iGy6nF2AzNXN0cXJcowB&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

I had a huge speed advantage with both Time Mage and Supply Runner, but level difference was also big. They spend a lot of mana on Grund which barely did anything.

image.png

Match 2:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_y156a4X6fWrS2wk7gKmT&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

I went with the Legionnaire Alvar and River Hellondale combo and it worked very well.

image.png

Match 3:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_eXC16R6SkGhyd3Zb9w6V&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

This was basically a mirror because the level difference was irrelevant. I lost the speed tie on the one attack that mattered so I lost. It always feels bad to lose these games.

image.png

Match 4:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_S50y3SGlRPxhp2fJNcoG&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

A somewhat similar game to one I lost on the first day, but this time, my opponent had less levels and there's no divine shield.

image.png

Match 5:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_6fAMDayoifiW75V9cVhH&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

My Forgotten One was super clutch getting all those Retaliates. The game could have been very different without those. It would allow Grum to live longer and probably get more kills, which gets out of hand very fast.

image.png

Match 6:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_ws5LTc0P4Gk1CgTviWNG&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

The biggest difference between our teams was me having River Hellondale. I won the speed tie of Diemonshark but I don't think it made a big difference because I would get it revived instead of having the Fiend revived.

image.png

Match 7:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_03KxiX648Rtgy2ACkU8n&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Very similar teams. They won the speed tie of Magi of Chaos, which was very important. Again, having a level 3 Goblin Psychic against a level 5 means I always attack last. It's one card I really need to level up to 5.

image.png

Match 8:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_O4unDC5MYQDGcPUA5DC5&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Similar strategies, but I had Supply Runner, which was fantastic here and they had Disintegrator, which barely did anything.

image.png

Match 9:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_KeUkLmVuvraJDZg1d3fx&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Almost identical teams, just different position. Having Grum more to the back might have been a better play from my opponent, but I was very unlucky with the Grum's miss on Forgotten One.

image.png

Match 10:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_5AyqgqgMqGEaJ1NWdu4i&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

The 8 HP from Hill Giant was great to absorb the initial damage. Having a level 3 Magi of Chaos also didn't hurt.

image.png

Match 11:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_ydbuWBdoITra2XtuldK1&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Void Dragon is good against magic, but my Regal Peryton having 3 magic damage means Void Dragon still takes 2. My Fiend also took 2 attacks while theirs only took 1.

image.png

8-3 on the second day for a 16-6 total. Same result on both days and I even lost one game on a 50/50. I got a very nice 18th place getting a little over 15 SPS. It was a fun tournament. Congratulations to Sakuraba, the champion, and everyone else who got a prize.

I hope you enjoyed reading this and if that's the reason you decide to start participating in these tournaments, please let me know!
