The Power of Flying Dragons - by @pero82
Hello everyone! Pozdrav svima!
This week I'm going to show you one of my battles featuring Dragon splinter with a little help from my Fire team.
This deck is what I use whenever I face Earthquake ruleset and have Dragon splinter available. Tactic is rather simple yet not a lot of people use it in lower Silver leagues. Read the rest of the post to find out how to make the most out of Dragon splinter in these kind of battles.
INTRO
Players using Dragon Summoners can summon cards from any Splinter, but before starting to build their team, they must pick one of the Splinters from which to select cards. They will then be able to summon cards from their Splinter of choice, as well as all the Dragon cards.
This makes Dragon splinter most powerful splinter in the game. It also contains some of the most powerful summoners and monsters, so any don't treat them lightly.
RULESET
This weeks battle has interesting ruleset, that I will explain below.
Earthquake - Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round.
- Using monsters with Flying or Heal is the trick for this ruleset, but if you are unable to choose such monsters, use monsters that have high HP and high damage (don't keep heal units up front)
- Shield has a very important role since it mitigates earthquake damage
- Using Brighton Bloom as summoner can help in this ruleset, or use monsters with Flying ability in last positions when Earthquake has done enough damage to both sides.
Healed Out - All healing abilities are removed from Monsters and Summoners.
- Don't use healers because they will be worthless
- You can skip monsters and summoners having Affliction.
- Life Leech is not impacted by this ruleset.
38 mana - This is medium amount of mana, so we can use a mix of expensive and cheap cards
Available splinters - Fire, Death, Dragon
- Fire - We can use Tarsa summoner (gives +1 melee and +1 health to the team) with Living Lava as tank (it has Shield ability and would take less damage from Earthquake) with some great melee attackers Fire splinter is full of. We just need to pick the ones that have decent amount of health so they can survive a couple of rounds of Earthquake damage.
- Death - We could use Thaddius Brood summoner (reduces enemy magic attack and health by 1) with Cursed Windeku as tank and put Riftwing in the back (it has Flying ability so Earthquake won't damage it and Scaveger ability that gives it one health whenever some monster dies).
- Dragon - Best choice for this ruleset because we can use Drake of Arnak summoner (+1 armor to whole team) or even better - Brighton Bloom (gives Flying ability to whole team making them immune to Earthquake damage), plus Djinn Chwala as tank. This is the option I chose and now you will see how it went.
STATS
Djinn Chwala is epic card from Dragon splinter - amazing tank that at level one costs 8 mana, comes with 2 attack and 2 speed, packed with 5 armor and 9 health.
You can read her lore HERE. 👈
What makes this monster so amazing at tanking is that besides the fact it has a lot of armor and health it also has Thorns ability at level 1.
- What it does?
- When hit with a Melee attack, does damage back to the attacker
- To what extent?
- Upper cap of the damage it does is 2, but monsters with Shield ability reduce that to 1
At level 4 it gets Enrage ability (Has increased Melee attack and Speed when damaged with multiplier x1.5 rounded up) and at level 6 True Strike (This monster's attacks cannot miss and Blind doesn't affect it).
All that combined with 4 attack, 3 speed, 6 armor and 10 health - pretty amazing don't you agree?
BATTLE
As I stated earlier I went with Dragon splinter and Brighton Bloom summoner, while my opponent went with Fire splinter and Tarsa summoner (similar tactic I thought about).
Line-up
BRIGHTON BLOOM
DJINN CHWALA
FINEAS RAGE
SCORCH FIEND

Round 1
When then I saw opponent's team I wasn't all that sure I was about to win. He had 2 flying monsters and the rest of the team was stacked with health. So there was a strong possibility that earthquake damage won't kill the soon enough and it would come to who has more damage.
Fortunately I brought my Sand Worm...
Round 2
All of the enemy attacks were focused on my Chwala, while my team focused on their tank. All except Sand Worm who picked off their back line one by one. First it killed their legendary monster Efreet Elder not allowing it to activate its Last Stand ability.
Round 3
Coming into round 3 my Chwala still stood her ground while my team killed their tank. Sand Worm took out Spark Pixies despite the huge speed disadvantage. Chwala laid her life for the team but not before taking a chunk of their tank's health with her thorns.
Round 4
Round 4 is where it all ended. Last 2 enemy monsters died without making their move.

CONCLUSION
Did your strategy work?
- Yes, my strategy worked out perfectly. Flying is the key when facing Earthquake, because it gives you freedom when choosing your cards not worrying about damage from it.
What will you try differently next time?
- Probably nothing. Whenever I see Earthquake ruleset and I have Dragon splinter available I go with Brighton Bloom, for the reasons I mentioned above.
Do you like the (monster)? Why or why not?
- I like Dragon splinter a lot. It is full of great summoners and even greater monsters. My favorite cards in Dragon splinter are Brighton Bloom and Djinn Chwala, both I used in this battle, and many battles before and after this one.
