My passive income from Splinterlands

If you are wondering that how can I be earning the "passive" income from a game that require active gameplay and whole gameplay is currently based on "Player vs Player" concept. (though in near future with Land sale and Boss fights many things might be changed.)

As far my knowledge is concerned there are 2 ways of passive earnings in Splinterlands.

1. Earning splits between player and deck owner.
2. Delegating card for some rental fees.

Let explore these option.

1. Earning splits between palyer and deck owner.

In this model, person will delegate the cards to a dummy account (specially created in blockchain for purpose of playing Splinterlands, though blockchain do not differentiate between accounts.) Then person will delegate cards to that account so a competive playable deck is created.(Depends also that which league you are targeting.). Accounts that are competive in Champions league require lot of investments but their earnings are also high. A Silver level account can be created with couple of hundreds dollar but there earnings are also low. So depending upon your capital availablity and player availablity ,you can take decision on this front.

In this model player and owner can either decide 50/50 model or 40/60 model of the earnings of the account i.e DEC,cards or booster packs.

2. Delegating card for some rental fees.

In above model you see that person created the whole deck but what if you have an extra copy of some good card that you do not want to part with it. This "extra" card is just lying idle on your collection as you do not use in it your active gameplay.
If I say that you can delegate this card to some other player who is willing to pay some rental fees decided then it is certainly win win for you as you still have ownership of the card and you earning some passive income out of it.

My way of earning

So I am a regular Splinterland player so I am keep getting rewards cards. I keep upgrading my rewards card but at certain level my account have more copies of cards that I actually need. I also have 2 option to sell these cards or stack them to a good level and offer them for rent. For a long time I was keep stacking my rewards cards and offering them in rent and it is generating me passive income of 5 cents daily.

Now if you are thinking why I created so hue and cry for just 5 cents daily?

Look closely, I earn 5 cents when my only 27 cards get rented out of 41 cards. When I check my collection value it only $156.

so by $156 my yearly income come as 365*.05 = $18.25 .

Its yearly percent yield is (18.25x100/156)% =11.69 % (in reality it is higher than it, because I get daily payment, not one yearly payment as I assumed in calculation

Also note is APR from rewards card that everyone gets for free for playing and I hope APR is much higher if you invest for specific splinters that are in high demand.

Rental market of Splinterlands in quite big and I remember some one having excess of $25000 investment just to rent cards.

So next time when you are having hard time in deciding whether to part with your cards or not, just think about rent option too.
