Happy Fourth Hive Birthday to Me! And Time to Get Back to Engagement, Maybe?!?

This month I'm celebrating four years on the Hive Blockhain!

I can't remember the exact day, but I joined what was then Steem back in August 2017, and on checking @arcange's HiveBuzz I noticed my fourth birthday has been and gone already, so this is something of a belated celebration.

Hive's become engrained as part of my life now

I don't even feel like a sad-sack anymore for spending so long 'dicking about on Hive' - I guess because I'm one of the lucky ones that has done pretty well connections-wise and financially out of the platform over the past four years.

Lucky Vests since the Fork

It was dark days in Discord if you remember the take over of Steem by Justin Sun, but the real Hive Witnesses came through and forked him out by creating Hive, which is an amazing 'fight the power' story in itself.

And I was sensible/ lucky enough to use a lot of the Steem I sold (I sold ALL of it) to buy @Splinerlands cards, Exode Cards and LEO, and so far two of those have done very well and @Exode I think is just a ticking time-bomb, waiting to blow-up.

@Leofinance has been one of the best things I've been a part of here on Hive - great community, I've benefitted from some fantastic financial advice (Rune and other DEFI projects mainly) and of course I got a decent sized Cub airdrop - and sorry, YES I did sell LOTs of Cub when it was over $1, for other assets, staked them in Cub and well now that's yielding VERY nicely!

And Splinterlands is just mindblowing - with a deck now valued over $100k and almost one million SPT staked and a tract, my DEC earnings and SPS drop rate are worth more than my old teacher's salary, which is UTTERLY BONKERS.

I'm still waiting on @Exode, I'm sure it'll come!

Year 5 - Back to writing and engaging and just plain fun!

While I'm not moaning about the Hive related token rewards, one downside is it's made me focus TOO MUCH on the money side of Hive.

I've got into this horrible little habit of micro-managing my Hive-Engine tokens on a daily basis for example, when it's really not necessary - for example I log into Splintertalk then transfer the 1000 SPT I've got liquid from the previous day's curation, stake that to this account then delegate it back to @revise.spt, then curate for the day.

I need to move to doing those micro-transfers once a week, it's so marginal the gain doing it daily, and moreover I need to just focus more on curating, engaging and writing.

Hive feels like it might be getting fun again

Thanks to @steevc I recently discovered @stickupboys on Hive and then through them @hive.pizza - the former are a Brighton based band who do great music and the later is a relatively new project on Hive, very outward looking, big focus on gaming content.

And most importantly everyone involved is just chilled and up for 'avin a laff'.

I remember that aspects of Steem used to be like that, then everything got a bit dramatic, then the price dropped, then it just went dead, then everything got VERY SERIOUS during the takeover and birth of Hive, and everything's been a bit quiet for most of the last year,

But now with more Tribes, and games kicking off, Hive seems a bit livelier, and a bit more fun once again.

That's what I want to focus on more for the coming year - more about the fun and engagement, less about the money, although where the later is concerned it's nice to be in a position where I can start sharing it out a bit more as I've got a decent stake in the Platform!

Really pleased for you, that's a great result for the time that you've put into Hive. Slightly worrying that there might be a massive exodus from teaching - good for Hive, but not so great for the UK education system. On the other hand, maybe Gavin Williamson will finally get the boot (not holding my breath)!

Congrats on being five year old here.

The way things are going on, I think everything is just getting started.

Maybe, in the next five years, the way so many projects going on, and the direction hive is going on, I am sure hive will catch up to the top cryptocurrencies.

I am sure the way you are diversying your money, on different games and projects, you might be earning the equivalent of the whole education institute, where you used to teach.🙂

Congrats! You were about a year after me, but you've done really well. The fork from Steem provided many of us with an opportunity to invest in other things. I bought mostly HIVE and DEC. That is paying off now. I am not depending on Hive income, but it could become useful down the line.

Hive has to be fun for me. We need to get more people involved. Looks like Brighton is a real hub of Hivers now.

Brighton doesn't surprise me at all as a hive Hub I think it's well suited!

I think anything Splinterlands related was a good buy indeed.

Congratulations on your Hive-versary! And special congrats on rocking Splinterlands. My deck is "only" worth a bit over $4k, but then again, I stopped playing daily quests before the Untamed cards came out. I was even thinking about selling ... which I'm glad I didn't do.

Also, thanks for being a part of the Hive ecosystem. I love reading your posts, whether they are about investments, interesting statistics, or news from your land.

It looks like you had one hell of party with those beers 🍻😂

I remember the takeover, and being very vocal in discord that people with the technical knowhow needed to do something to negate JS hostile takeover before it was complete. I'm glad they did in the end just in the nick of time.

Wow, a 100k splinterlands deck is no mean feat. I never dived into splinterlands because I'm not a fan of that type of game. Oh well, sold my steem into BTC as soon as it was powered down and did OK doing that 🙂

Here's to 4 more years of abundance on hive 🍺
