Splinterlands Challenge of the Week: Angelic Mandarin

This week's Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to showcase the Angelic Mandarin from the Water Splinter...

At level one this is a basic, but decent low mana card - with relatively high health for the mana being its greatest starting point strength!

The battle below features a Level 1 Mandarin in the rather unusual position of tank, but making the use of his relatively high health!

The Rule Set and Line Up

  • Mana cap 28
  • Standard Rules apply (Bronze League!)

Summoner - Valnamor

  1. Angelic Mandarin - I had 3 mana left so plopped him in as tank
  2. Lobstradamus - Shield and decent health so tank 2
  3. Ruler of the Seas - the main damage card
  4. Ice Pixie - low mana and Magic attack 2
  5. Coral Wraith - sneak Magic attack 3
  6. Igor - A ranged attack to bring up the rear!

Did my strategy work?

Beautifully, to see it in action click here!

  • Round 1 - We trade blows for no loss on either side.
  • Round 2 - I take out my opponent's Cursed Windeku, that's his main health card down, nice, but I lose Igor, then Coral Wraith in rapid succession.
  • Round 3 - RoS blast takes out my opponent's Disintegrator and Undead Badger straight off the bat, nice, but I lose my Ice Pixie.
  • Round 4 - it's all over, I rapidly take out my opponent's THREE remaining cards!

How important was The Angelic Mandarin?

It ended up being quite a good choice as tank, because no melee attack meant no thorns retaliation and my opponent's focus on sneak and snipe meant he held out for 3 rounds given that my opponent was only dealing two damage.

And I have to hand it to the Mandarin, he lasted the distance!

Meanwhile Lobstradamus was soaking up all the snipe damage with his huge health and my back row protecting the RoS, my main damage dealer.

But I think overall the Ruler of the Seas is the real champion of this battle, thanks to his blast attack taking out two cards at once in two separate rounds!

Overall

Final Thoughts: Angelic Mandarin - worth buying?

This one is a big YES for me if yer gonna take this to the max - at Level 8 he ends up with 2 damage and reasonable 4 speed, and with TWO abilities - triage and silence.

Two VERY useful buffs against very common sneak and snipe attacks and magic decks!

If you don't yet play Splinterlands, why not give it a go?
