Splinterlands Challenge of the Week: Child of the Forest

This week's Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to showcase the sniping Child of the Forest.

As with many of my untamed cards my Child is relatively unlevelled - only level four for me, but there was no harm giving him a rare run-out once I'd reached C1, and so when a suitable rule-set presented itself I decided to have a bit of fun with the snipe ability, stacking my deck with not one, but four snipe cards, one of which was the Child.

The battle below features my deck with some relatively unlevelled cards against a similarly levelled opponent...

The Rule Set and Line Up

  • Mana 38
  • no melee monsters

**Summoner - Lyanna - No melee monsters meant either magic or ranged, and I fancied a jolly old 'cheek' ranged snipe battle, and Lyanna suited!

  1. Lord A - simply the best all round tank, especially since most people don't seem to have gotten into 'oppress' yet!
  2. Spirit of the Forest - one of the best cards out there - I was going for a cheek-win, so I thought the high health and ability to self-heal when in the front would be a good asset.
  3. Dwarven Wizard - Snipe and stun - in third so the ranged attacks are behind, also one extra shield!
  4. Mantoid - Snipe 2 - higher health!
  5. Child of the Forest - more snipe!
  6. Centaur - put at the back as it's slightly less quick than the Child. In retrospect, these two should have been reversed!

Did my strategy work?

Beautifully - to see it in action click here!

  • Round 1 - We trade battles, and not losses, but it's looking bad for my opponent - my mixed tank defences are holding up well and reflect is proving punishing. Meanwhile his snipe is obviously going to be ineffective against the Spirit of the Forest.
  • Round 2 - Snipe carnage. Thanks to my ranged snipers and pre-weakening by Lord A's reflect my opponent loses his PrisM, Healer and Magi all in one round. I lost Lord A.
  • Round 3 - Spirit is now my tank, and this is looking good - first off she heals the minor snipe damage she's got. No losses in this round, but my Dwarf stuns my opponent's Spirit which takes that damage out for the next round, crucial!
  • Round 4 - I take out his Spirit, despite one miss
  • Round 5 - I take out his Elemental, it can't withstand the 8 snipe damage I've still got
  • Rounds 6 and 7 - it's all over, he can't kill my Spirit with a level 1 Kron.

How important was Child of the Forest?

He played his part, but I wouldn't call him essential. More crucial were Lord A (reflect), the Dwarf, whose stun took out multiple attacks, and The Sprit, with all those buffs, especially healing!

Would I level him up?

Even though I don't play him very often, I did notice that he's quite cheap, at only $0.05, and with only 115 BCX required to max, where you get 3 damage for 3 mana, I think that's worth it, especially with 7 health. That alone combined with the Spirit gives you a very tasty 6 snipe damage!

Just better hope you don't come up against that new legendary water summoner, and I don't mean the one I just bought for cheap!

The Child of the Forest is really a cool snipe addition to the Earth splinter. As you have shown, it allows for massive snipe teams. You even had five snipers in your line-up. Ouch.

I was just messing around, I wouldn't usually do that!

Once I've got my C1 position in the season, I'm happy enough to experiment a little!

Thanks for sharing! - @yonilkar

Child of the forest is an interesting card, low Mana, very fast and snipe can be a good option for card on the battlefield.
