Splinterlands Challenge of the Week: War Chaang

(Edited)

This week's Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to showcase the dual attack War Chaang, from the Untamed selection of cards.

I happened to be one card off level 3, so I bought another and gained a plus one for his ranged attack, and here's an example of a battle where he came in handy for a victory.

I was actually waiting for this rule set (ranged in front) in order to play War Chaang for this quest, and I finally got the chance, about half way through a Dragon quest....

The Rule Set and Line Up

  • Mana 17
  • Ranged attacks at the front - perfect for War Chaang
  • Magic hits armour - no particular benefit for War Chaang.

Summoner - Camilla (if that's her name?) - TBH I thought I'd selected Selenia, given all my ranged attacks, but her -1 damage turned out to be most useful against my opponent's double sneak attack!

  1. War Chaang - 4 damage in the front with this rule set, and retaliate, though no shielding at all, so weak in that respect.
  2. The Chicken - to defend against blast (and +10% DEC!)
  3. Khmer Princess - low mana and double heal, one of my most used cards.
  4. Alchemist - Running low on Mana, thought the halving might help with the WC as tank.
  5. Earth Elemental - a standard Earth defence against sneak, handily what my opponent played!

Did my strategy work?

Despite accidentally selecting the wrong summoner, yes! To see it in action click here!

  • Rounds 1-3 we trade blows, for no loss, but by round 3 it's apparent that my opponent isn't doing sufficient damage to counteract my healing.
  • Round 4 - A busy round.... My opponent loses his Paladin, thanks to three retaliates from the War Chaang, and just in time to stop reflect killing my Khmer Princess. He then loses his chicken, thanks again the War Chaang's double attack. This moves the Feral Spirit to the front, meaning my Elemental is safe given that the Princess healed herself this round!
  • Round 5 - a few misses on the Feral, but it's OK it's all over now - he eventually dies right at the end of the round!
  • Round 6 - mopping up! I win.

How important was The War Chaang?

The mana was a little low for such a high mana card, my summoner selection was a mistake, but even so, he worked out well!

His 4 damage combined with three retaliates were the main reason the Paladin fell first, which saved my Khmer Princess.

He was also crucial in quickly killing off the Chicken, with his double attack, bringing the Feral to the front and totally neutralising my opponent's sneak attack!

However, my healing line up was also crucial as was the minus one hex from Camilla, to keep my Elemental alive at the back.

So he definitely played his part! He did seem to be very busy, with five retaliates overall!

NICE!

Will I use the War Chaang more often?

The fact that I only had War Chaang levelled up to L2 kind of gives the game away that I don't use him that often, but having given him a rare run out, I might re-evaluate for the 'ranged attacks' in the front rule'. Even at L3 with the retaliate buff, he can be handy!

And you can use him for any Splinter, given that he's 'neutral'!

Having said that I was maybe a little over-powered compared to my opponent, not sure how well a L3 Chaang would fare against a next level opponent!

Thanks for sharing! - @ashikstd

So you selected the wrong summoner.
But still, you're the winner which is great.
Nice strategy.

That was a perfect ruleset for the War Chaang with Close Range. I really like the War Chaang but using him as a tank like that is super cool and makes good use of his retaliate ability. Thank you for your Battle Challenge.

Hey thanks, it's a pretty useful card in that ranged at the front rule set for sure!
