Exploring the Chaos: The Unknown Potential of 1 Mana Chaos Cards

INTRODUCTION

Hi!

I started playing Splinterlands September last year, months before the release of Chaos Legion and ever since that, many updates have been done to improve the game. One of them is the addition of the modern format gameplay where Untamed, Chaos Legion and some of the promo and rewards card are the only cards that can be used. It might be a little too late to have a complete Untamed collection but as for Chaos Legion packs, they are still available in the Splinterlands shop and buying the individual cards on third party market is also very cheap. So, I thought to have a deep dive on the Chaos Legion Cards to properly utilize this new set of cards.

Let’s start with 1 mana cards. Chaos Legion has offered us with new 1 mana card each for all the elements besides dragon and each of them has different abilities and stats depending on what the level of those cards are and what league you are playing at. If you happen to have an empty slot and 1 excess mana, you can use this card to be a damage sponge before it gets through to your main line up and sometimes having this card or not is what differentiates victory from defeat. Here are some battle examples.

Battel 1: Rulesets & Opponent Lineup

On this battle, we have an explosive weaponry and healed out ruleset meaning monster attacks have blast abilities and they cannot use heal with only Earth, Fire and Life Elements available for 28 mana cap. We both chose the Life Splinter and the same Summoner, General Slone but the opponent only has level 1 summoner while I have level 2 which has allowed me to use my cards with bronze cap stats and abilities. This summoner has the ability to add 1 range damage.

*Opponent uses Pelacor Conjurer which only cost 2 mana with 4 HP and flying ability that gives it 25% miss chance from melee and range, a good tank against my ranged team.
*Next, is the Celestial Harpy which also cost 2 mana, has flying and opportunity that allows it to attack the Splinter with the lowest HP regardless of its position, a great card to use for blast ruleset.
*On the third slot, he places Truthspeaker which has the protect ability, adding 2 armor to all opponent’s monsters as long as this card is still on play.
*On the next two slots, he places 2 ranged Splinter. The Venari Crystalsmith, now with 2 damage has the heal ability but has been disabled by the ruleset and the Pelacor Arbalest, now with 3 damage has the double strike ability which allows it to attack twice.
*For the last card, he places the Djinn Renova which has 2 magic damage and has the strengthen ability that gives 1 HP to all my opponent’s monsters as long as the card is still on play for the total of 28 mana.

My Team

Blinding Reflector is a good melee tank for low mana battles. At level 3, it has 1 attack, 5 HP and 3 armor that allows it to last longer against melee and ranged opponent.

Gargoya Scrapper is a 1 mana card that I use as secondary tank to receive the blast damage. At level 3, it has gained the void ability which halves the magic damage of the opponent.

Time Mage fills the 3rd slot. It is a magic splinter with the slow ability, decreasing the opponent’s speed by 1.

Supply Runner is a neutral range card. It doesn’t have any abilities at level 3 but it has 2 range damage and 4 speed.

Pelacor Arbalest like my opponent has double strike ability that allows it to attack twice.

Venari Crystalsmith has the heal ability but was disabled by the healed out ruleset. All in all my Line up also cost 28 mana.

Battle Phase

  • Because of the slow of Time Mage all my opponent’s cards speed turns to 1, allowing my entire line up to attack first and destroys both Pelacor Conjurer and Celestial harpy despite their heavy armor and life buffs.
  • Then it was the opponents turn to attack. Djjjn Renova attacks first with it’s 2 magic but its blast damage didn’t get through to the Gargoya Scrapper. And allow it last long enough to receive the succeeding damage from my opponent for the first round, leaving the rest of my line up unscathed.
  • Round 2 was where it ends as my teams second attack completely obliterates the remaining cards with no means to retaliate.

Battel 2: Rulesets & Opponent Lineup

The second Battle, we have an equalizer and reverse speed ruleset where everyone’s health becomes the health of the card with the highest HP and the slowest cards gets to attack first with all the elements except from water available for 25 mana cap. We both use Obsidian which is a summoner for the Earth team that gives + 1 magic and damage wise, we have an identical lineup.

  • Opponent uses Brownie, a melee card with the swiftness ability, giving additional speed to all his monsters as long as the card is alive. It makes the ruleset disadvantageous for him but it might be because he only had that 1 mana card.
  • Next, is Queen Mycelia, a legendary card that has the protect ability at level 1 that gives +2 armor to all my opponent’s cards.
  • It was followed by Goblin Psychic on the third slot and Wood Nymph on the fourth which both have the heal ability and allows them to heal any monster that is on the first position.
  • On his fifth slot, he has the Sporcerer with the rust ability, decreasing my team’s shield by 2. He was only able to use 24 mana in total.

My Team

Mycelic Morphoid is a 1 mana Earth card with the torns ability at level 3. Any melee monster who will attack this card will receive 2 damage.

Chaos Agent is a 1 Mana Neutral card with dodge ability at level 3. It has 25% chance of dodging non-magic attacks.

Magi of Chaos is a Neutral magic card. As a Neutral card, it can be used by any summoner of any element but when considering all the available Chaos Legion summoners, it has the best synergy with Obsidian.

For the third slot, I also placed a level 1 Queen Mycelia.

For the fifth slot, I have the legendary Spirit Hoarder with the triage ability, healing any of my cards that is not in the first position.

The last slot, I placed my own Goblin Psychic so that I have a tank heal of my own and for that I was able to use all my mana and monster slot

Battle Phase

  • Due to the reverse speed ruleset, the slower cards get to attack first and when cards with different rarity has the same speed, the order will be form common to legendary. In case that both teams has the same speed and card rarities, the order of which the cards attack will be randomized.

  • Sporcerer has nullified my Queen Mycelia’s protect ability but since both of us is using a magic team, It doesn’t really put me into disadvantage.

  • With the reverse ruleset in play and looking at my opponent’s magic lineup, I was at a disadvantage because all them only has 1 speed while my Magi of Chaos has 2 but with Brownie increasing the speed of my opponent’s team, I was able to attack first and finishes Brownie on the first round and damaging Queen Mycelia while my magic lineup was left unscathed thanks to Mycelic Morphoid and Chaos Agent.

  • The second round, with the opponent’s speed returned to normal, I'm at disadvantage. All of his magic cards have 1 speed and 2 of his cards are common while I only have one and his commons both have heals but since they always comes first, they miss the chance to heal their team.

  • At the end, I won the battle at round 6.

Final Thoughts

Those battles were great example of how to use 1 mana cards for filling empty slots but check again on the 2nd battle. The two cards I used there were gold foils and having as much as many gold foils on your line up allows you to gain more Rshare points and DEC rewards especially if you are playing at the modern format where you cannot use alpha and beta cards which has a separate bonus. The usage of that two gold foil 1 mana cards gives me an easy 20 % bonus and right now this cards are one of the cheapest common gold foils in the market with the exception of chaos agent. By the time that I am making this post, the price of these cards is around $ 0.35 only while Chaos Agent is around $ 2.00, probably because this is a card that you can use on any element and the only 1 mana card you can use when melee cards are banned. As common gold foils, at 1 BCX, these cards are already at level 3 which unlocks their additional abilities and has 125 CP each for the total of 625 CP and they are more than good enough at that level. Even at max level, there’s not much improvement on the stats of this cards so even at gold league, I only use them at level 3 but if you want the cheapest power available using chaos legion cards, then maxing out this cards is a good option.

And that’s it for my first Chaos Legion card analysis. Hope that you learned something from it.
