Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

With my last post, I talk about Glint and how to best utilize their use defending on what each player goals is cause each player earns glint differently and plays on different league. And now, for this week's Community Engagement Challenge, I will be baking some pointers on how to enter on Tournaments to help both new and old players to increase the amount of rewards they earn. That and I will also show some of my SPS Earnings as someone who plays tournaments regularly.

  • What is Tournament?

img_nav_play_hover.png

Tournaments are set of events held where players compete using a standardized set of cards, giving all participants an equal opportunity to win prizes. Unlike ranked battles, tournaments does not consume energy for each battle and the prices could vary, from different types of tokens to lands and packs but may require the participants to pay an entry fee to participate which is a safeguard to avoid forfeiture.

  • How To Participate on Tournament?

To participate in the tournament, first hover on the Play Menu and click on the tournaments on the dropdown items. This will transfer you to the Tournament Page.

On the Tournament page, you can see the list of the available tournaments that can either be public that anyone can enter or private that may require invitation to participate that each comes with different entry fees and different requirements. Overall, tournaments are divided into 3 main types and 2 formats.

Tournament Types

  • Single Elimination: To participate, players need to check- in 15 minutes before the tournament starts and can only submit their battle during a limited time. Players that loses the match are immediately eliminated on the tournament.

  • Anytime: Does not requires a check- in to participate and players can submit their battle within 24 hours period since the battle start. The top 30% of Players that wins most of their battles will advanced to the second round to determine the overall winner and will be given another 24 hours to submit their battle.

  • Sit N Go: May be an Anytime or Single Elimination and may start either on the scheduled date or when the required number of participants were reached but if it does not reached the required amount of participants, the tournament will be cancelled.

Tournament Formats:

  • Modern - Allows the use of the 2 latest card sets including their promo cards, rewards and mini- sets. At the writing of this post, the playable sets are Chaos Legion and Rebellion.

  • Wild - This format allows the use of all cards sets

Tournament formats can be further break down through different rules by restricting the types of cards that can be used whether it was gold foil only, the league caps by which cards can only be played at certain level or by randomizing the type of sets that can be played and this is per the Proposal written by @clayboyn.

  • Tournament Requirements

As I said above, there are various requirements that players needs to consider when participating in a tournament. This was made not only to secure that players will play on the tournaments that they joined but also to ensure that players on different leagues and players with a certain collection of cards can also have the opportunity to test their skills in a tournament manner.

  1. Entry Fee - May be in the form of SPS, DEC or Vouchers with the higher the league requirements comes with a higher fee. The DEC fees that were made on tournaments hosted by @sps.tournaments were burned to reduce DEC inflation.

  2. Collection Power (CP) - Is the total sum of the DEC burn value of the cards. This may include the value from delegated or rented cards.

  3. Card Editions - Some tournaments may only be played with a specific edition of cards and only the collection power of the specified cards will count for the CP requirements. This may also include Gold foil requirements.

  4. League Cap - Players may only play the cards on a certain league regardless of the actual level of their card.

  5. SPS Staked- Some tournaments may also restrict the players defending with the amount of SPS staked that they have though SPS that are delegated and rented counts.

Note:
To make it easier to find the tournaments that you can enter, on the replace the *"All rules Option"* to *"Qualified"*.

  • Tips On Joining tournament

I have been an active participant of tournaments, playing both my owned account and the Balthazar scholar account that I am playing and here are some of my tips in order to help you to win some tournament prices.

  1. Participate on tournaments with similar format and league that you play in ranked.

  2. Check the number of participants. The lower the participants, the higher the chance on winning rewards.

  3. For renters, only participate on tournament after you rent cards and SPS to be able to satisfy the tournament requirements.

  4. Take your time on creating your lineup as tournament gives your more time compared to ranked battles. This allows you to have better understanding of the ruleset and mana cap.

  5. Always set reminder to avoid forfeiture.
