Back To Splinterlands -Building My Team to Level 2 Summoners

After selling out early February 2021, I am starting to play again and rebuild my team. Much has changed in the past year, and we have moved onto a new set of cards. Many of these cards are great, but I miss some of the classic Beta and old reward cards. My Goal is leaning towards getting as many cards in 1 BCX GF as I can, but this will be a slow goal. I will get all the epics and legendary in normal that I can as I try to get common and rare cards I use often in GF first. It will be a long road, but it makes sense to me most of the time to buy 1 bcx and not combine it vs trying to buy 14 cards and combine to a level 2.

Weekly Challenge - Desert Dragon

Edition: CHAOS
Rarity: LEGENDARY
Element: DRAGON
Attack: MELEE
Abilities: TRAMPLE
Health: 6
Shield 3
Speed: 2
Attack: 4

Reasons Why I like it
It has high melee damage, with 3 Shield and a decent health at 6. I like trample, but since it only works if you knock them out. When it hits it can be real game changer, but often I seem to miss knocking them out.

Downsides
The low health and slow speed makes it weaker against faster cards and magic. Very strong card in Melee focused matches.

The Matchup

MANA: 12
RULES: Opportunity: All Monsters have the Opportunity Ability:
RULES Odd Ones Out: Only Monsters with odd Mana costs may be used in battles.
SPLINTERS: Water, Life, Death, Dragon

  • Summoner Kretch Tallevor
Its the only dragon summoner I have. Best pat is it is a 3 mana, vs a lot of the 4 mana. Given how low the mana is I think 3 is a good trade off.

  • First position Chaos Agent
Pure cannon fodder. It has one health, so it will be attached first. No point putting anywhere other than upfront incase the fastest attacking monster is in their first spot.

  • Second Position Gargoya Scrapper
Another card I expect to be gone pretty quick. Very little hope it even gets a turn, best hope is it takes two shots.

  • Third Position Desert Dragon
I am pinning the whole thing on the Desert Dragon. I am hoping to get some knockouts early and really do some damage.

Opponent Lineup & Match Play

They played Kelya Fredul. The added speed and shield could cause me issues. Doubling the required hits to knock them out and reducing my chances to hit them. Looks like I really should have played something with Shield. they would have never done any damage. Right now I am getting a little worried.

  • Summoner Kelya Frendul
Given that speed boost and some armor. That will be really had to overcome, it will take at least two hits for every monster.

  • Cruel Sethropod
A easy fodder card, but it will attack.

  • Hardy Stone Fish
Another easy fodder card, but it still attacks and will stay take a while to get through the armor.

  • Pelacoor Bandit
The best card they have, flying, speed and attack with armor.

  • Creeping Ooze
Makes my chances even lower to hit and they will attack prior to getting a turn.

Round 1

I am worried, this is not looking good for me. Speed is king, and Pelecor attacks first. Since it has sneak, the oppertunity does not override sneak so it takes on armor off my Desert Dragon. Followed by Hard Stone Fisk knocking out my Chaos Agent, quickly followed by Cruel Sethropod taking my Gargoya Scrapper down to one health. Just like I hoped, it will absorb two attacks. I finally get a turn for Desert Dragon since creeping ooze does not have an attack! So I knock the armor off the Stone fish. Then Gargoya Scrapper does hit turn and takes one armor off Cruel Sethropod. At the end of the Round things are looking iffy. I do knock the armor of the Cruel Sethropod.

Round 2

Repeat the same order... Pelacor Bandit takes another armor off Desert Dragon dropping me down to 1!. Hardy Stone Fish takes out my Gargoya Scrapper leaving me with only one card left!! I am getting worried!. Cruel Sethropod takes out my last armor and I finally get a turn, but I am down to 6 health!!! I do knock the armor of the Cruel Sethropod.

Round 3

Things feel bleak.. I don't even want to watch. We know the drill Pelacor... deals a blow and takes me down to 5 health... then hardy Stone Fish takes me down to 4, before Sethropod takes me down to 4... things do not look good at all.

Who do you thinks wins at first glance?

Well... lets go its my turn. Desert Dragon with 3 health attacks Cruel Sethropod and knocks it out.... finally trample kicks in and I get another turn knocking out Hardy Stone Fish... if only I could keep trampling!

Round 3 and beyond... Still not looking good!

image.png

Given the speed, flying, and armor I am worried. Pelacor attacks again and takes me down to 2 health while my attack does only takes away the armor. One miss and I will lose. Pelacor takes me down to 1... and it all on the next turn. Luckily for me Desert Dragon manages to hit and knock out Pelacor Bandit, leaving only the creeping ooze. I WON! Basically the only reason I won is because Ooze didn't have any Melee and I got super lucky hitting everything. Overall I got super lucky, even with my bad line up I managed to pull off a win. I think Shield, thorns.

I hope to find more uses for the card, I do love me some trample!!!
