Back To Splinterlands -Building My Team to Level 2 Summoners

I'm back to show off another epic battle with my level 2 summoners currently playing in the silver league. While my ranking is maxed out for silver one and I'm able to advance the gold I will continue to play in silver one for a while to try to balance the rewards, chests and, and penalties for underleveled cards. This battle will show a nice approach utilizing dragon splinter on a mid-bandom match with cripple.

Weekly Challenge -Dragons

I was excited to see this week's challenge as I enjoy playing with the dragon splinter. Some of the dragon cards are some of the most powerful cards you can use, they tend to have unique combinations of speed health and attack. There's also the massive benefit of getting to join with another splinter

Reasons Why I like Dragons

Just look at those three cards, while one is only a summoner, it's a three mana summoner. One of the older summoners that only cost three mana and can be a huge advantage in mid to low and it matches to keep your consumption under control. Looking at the next two monsters it's hard not to love Djinn Chwalla and void dragon. They make a very formidable team with their mix of speed, damage, protection and abilities. Not to mention that when playing with dragons you get to pick one of the other available splinters to complete your team as well as neutral cards as long as not prohibited by the rule set.

The Matchup

MANA: 26

Ruleset: Tis but Scratches: All Monsters have the Cripple ability.

SPLINTERS: Fire, Earth, Death, Dragon

Initial Rule Set and Mana Gameplay Thoughts

This is a pretty interesting setup. 26 mana is towards the smaller side of mana matches it seems these days in silver and gold, and adding in cripple makes it a little tricky. I have noticed that cripple matches typically do not benefit from having a healer as the ever dwindling Max health of the monster means it gets healed less and less each round and eventually provides little benefit. I think the name of the game is going to be speed and monsters that attack multiple times or have guaranteed hits like magic.

  • Summoner Kretch Tallevor I decided to go with kretch because it was only three mana versus four or more. Well it doesn't give any benefits it does save me a man or two.

  • First Position Djinn Chwala
Downright one of my favorite tanks. The hi-health, high armor with thorns just makes it a beast. The fact that it also does three melee damage tends to be enough to take their tanks out relatively quickly while being around for multiple rounds before it's health and armor is eliminated.

  • Second Position Void Dragon
A very sneaky second position card due to its high speed, flying and void means it is typically missed on multiple attacks while negating some magic attacks.

  • Third Position Life Sapper
Since I chose not to play healing cards I wanted cards with life leech to try to counteract the cripple effect on them. Just hoping to get a few attacks in to build the health up before their health is starting to be taken away

  • Fourth Position Venari Bonesmith you forget to play One Life leech you might as well play the second light leechh. Put in bone Smith here to compliment Life saver and hopefully build up some high health.

  • Fifth Position Scavo Hireling since I decided not to play a healing card because of the dwindling health, I decided to have a repair monster in case adding some extra armor each round would help Djinn Chwalla stick around and do more damage

  • Sixth Position Corpse Fiend
Classic back row sneak fighter. Just put it back here hoping to block some sneak attacks for as long as possible.

Opponent Lineup & Match Play

  • Summoner Mylor Crowling I always hate playing against Mylor, it does so much damage on melee attacks it can really change the game
  • Pelacor Mercenary pretty well balanced card, armor speed attack and now thorns. Will be pesky to get rid of
  • Mycelic Morphoid a decent one-man of card to toss in and deliver some Thorn damage to a melee card
  • Centaur Mage combination of high health with return fire and thorns makes it a great play.
  • Goblin Thief a level above mine at level 4 it gains three melee damage and sneak which means it'll be delivering some big knockout power right away.
  • Queen Mycelia one of my most hated cards because I don't own one yet. Adding the armor to all the monsters will make it just all the more difficult to get through and knock them out
  • Fungus Fiend looks to be the same play that I made with the zero mana card at the back of the lineup

Round 1

image.png
round one starts off and has a absolute ton of action. Not just all the attacks but all the crippled damage was really starting to show up quickly. I do lose my zero mana sneak blocker in round one but the rest is all just damage but I expected.

Round 2

image.png

Round two starts off and honestly things don't look much different I still have no idea how this is going to go. As round two progresses I lose my second card in scabio as goblin thief is really starting to make its presence known. On a positive note all of my magic attacks have been starting to take effect and I managed to knock out pellicore mercenary. I also managed to knock out my cilic morphod as it takes out Djinn Chwalla

Round 3

image.png

Round three is starting to look a little rough, they have more cards but are adding or increasing health in the back row. Not to mention I now have void on my tank which only gate the two attacks on the front row. The only downside is cripple is still taking in effect. It does appear that life leech is starting to really have a benefit.

Round 4

image.png
round four starts and things look pretty similar although everyone's health is starting to decline a little bit and a confidence is not growing.

Round 5

image.png

As the round starts it looks like I might just get lucky and I knock out centaui mage. The speed and flying of the dragon is also starting to take an effect as the goblin thief misses his attack saving my health for another round. This match is already lasted longer than I thought it would.

Round 6

image.png

Is around 6:00 starts things are looking pretty good now because life sapper is up to seven health, and Bone Smith is at two health and adding one each round. I do lose weight dragon this round but goblin thief is down to one health and I get to attack first.

Round 7

image.png

round 7 starts off with me attacking goblin thief and knocking them out. At this point I think is a guaranteed victory for me since they can only do one damage at a time and I will be adding one health each round via life leech. It's just a matter of how many rounds it'll take

Round 8

image.png

Round eight looks pretty good, my health is remaining the same for my tank and growing in the back row as expected. Couple more rounds in this way over

Round 9

image.png

Round 9 starts off with immediate kill of Queen micellar, and now it will just take two attacks to knock out fungus fiend. Chalk one up for the good guys I might have pulled one out on this match.

Thoughts - and Chances to Win Again

After watching that match and seeing it go nine rounds I honestly didn't know if I got lucky, or if I picked a really well-balanced lineup against my opponent. After using the tool it appears that I am a 100% favored to win this matchup it played again. I feel very good with the lineup I chose but understand I may have gotten lucky if they picked a different splinter or summoner like obsidian with a higher magic damage that I did not have adequate protection for. Either way I think this is a great win and a solid lineup to play against the variety of opponents and summoners.
