Introduction

I'm here to share my Battle Mage Secrets blog post for the Battle Mage Secrets Challenge. The theme featured this week is Armored Up. In this ruleset, all creatures get +2 armor. I will be sharing some strategies that are good to use in this ruleset as well as feature one of my battles under this ruleset.

Strategy For Armored Up Ruleset

I feel the best lineups in armored up ruleset revolve around magic or countering magic. Ideally, when I see this ruleset I would try to play Immortalis. My other choices would be Obsidian , Thaddius, Owster or Rathe. I feel these are the best summoners for this ruleset in modern. If we look at wild, we will have more options like Alric and Valnamor but I don't really play wild that much so I can't really give any advice on this. You can also consider playing cards with rust to remove the armor from the armored up ruleset.

The Battle

I played this battle on my own account, shawnnft. The battle link can be found here. This battle is in brawl; the fray is #10 in tier 2 which is silver league untamed and chaos legion sets only. The ruleset for this battle was armored up and briar patch. It was a 46 mana cap battle with only life and dragon element useable.

Discussing My Lineup

Summoner, Grandmaster Rathe - I chose Grandmaster Rathe as the summoner as this was the best summoner in my opinion based on the ruleset and elements available. Since earth element wasn't available there was no possibility of an Immortalis counterplay so Grandmaster Rathe was a solid choice giving an additional 1 armor and void armor. This means that with the armored up ruleset, all my creatures were getting +3 armor that could block magic damage which is super crucial since magic counters armor.

First Position, Pelacor Conjurer - I chose {elacor Conjurer to be my main tank. As I mentioned in previous posts, this card is probably one of the most cost effective tanks in the game at 2 mana for life. Since there was Briar patches, this card was a super good choice since it can't attack. Along with that, as mentioned before in armored up, we have to counter magic so Pelacor Conjuerer also has a nice magic reflect for this battle.

Second Position, Magi Of Chaos - I chose Magi Of Chaos just purely for DPS and as a secondary tank when Pelacor Conjurer died.

*Third Position, Adelade Brightwing - The purpose of this card was to repair the armor so it can keep blocking magic damage with the void armor. This is a super core card when it comes to Grandmaster Rathe lineups. It also has an awesome revive ability that can help keep the tank alive longer.

Fourth Position, Supply Runner - The purpose of Supply Runner was to give my team speed but also give my team ranged damage as well. As mentioned before, it's expected in this ruleset to play magic or counter magic. I had Supply Runner incase the opponent played magic reflect.

Fifth Position, Prismologist - The main purpose for Prismologist was for the same reason I played Supply Runner. It also had blast which helped do extra splash damage.

Final Position, Captain Katie - Captain Katie is a gladius card that is probably the most used gladius card in life in my opinion. I love playing this card as it's super strong with snipe and has solid damage and health stats. It also has bloodlust so it can get stronger and stronger. This card was my finisher which was why I put it last. Also it was quite safe in the back since there's briar patch, it's unlikely the opponent would try to play sneak melee monsters.

Did My Strategy Work?

Yes, my strategy worked. I think Captain Katie was my MVP in this battle since it helped kill all the backline magic and ranged monsters. I'm also unsure why the opponent chose to play Quix as Grandmaster Rathe was the most optimal play. If you watched the battle, it wasn't even close and it just shows how strong Grandmaster Rathe is in this ruleset provided there's no counter play with Immortalis.

Do I Like Armored Up Ruleset?

To answer this, I have a neutral feeling with this ruleset. It is a bit predictable which is what I don't like but it can also be fun sometimes. I enjoyed having that extra armor with my Grandmaster Rathe to make my team extra thick.
