Introduction

Hi everybody,

My name is @shawnnft and I'm here to share my challenge blog post for the Share Your Battle Challenge. The theme featured this week is Legionnaire Alvar. I will discuss when is the best to use the card, explaining a lineup I use with it and some general thoughts on the card as well.

When To Use Legionnaire Alvar

image.png

There are two rulesets I feel Legionnaire Alvar is best at. The first is the odds one out ruleset where you can only use odd mana cards. In this ruleset, Legionnaire Alvar is one of the best odd mana tank cards. Also, it's neutral so you can use it with any of the summoners. It's best paired with water because water has good odd mana cards. With water element, there's also the famous, River Hellondale combo with Legionnaire Alvar that will revive him with all his armor that can't be ignored by magic because of void armor. There's not many strong opportunity monsters in odd mana so this lineup is quite strong as it just makes Legionnaire a really annoying tank.

The second scenario that he's good in is the up close and personal ruleset. This will only apply to gold league and above because this is when he gets demoralize. That demoralize is huge as all the monsters are guarantee melee in this ruleset so you have a 100% chance to -1 melee attack on the enemy teams attack.

The Battle

I played this battle on my scholar account, bltzr-wizard-727. The battle link can be found here. This battle is in gold wild league. The ruleset for this battle was what odd ones out and fire & regret with a4 6 mana cap. Fire, life and dragon element were not usable. Based on the ruleset, I knew that water element would be good because of Legionnaire Alvar + River Hellondale

Discussing My Lineup

First Position, Legionnaire Alvar - I chose Legionnaire Alver to be the main tanker. It's one of the best tanks in odd mana as mentioned before. It can basically tank fifteen damage including magic because of void armor. With River Hellondale it's another extra ten damage to soak.

Second Position, Flying Squid - I chose Flying Squid as a secondary tank with reach. The reach allows it to do damage from the second position. and with nine health it's a decent secondary tank.

*Third Position, Nerissa Tridawn - I chose Nerissa Tridawn for this position because it's a super solid DPS with solid health. It's doing four damage every round and with 11 health it can be another backup tank after the first two cards die.

Fourth Position, River Hellondale - I chose River Hellondale for this spot as the main purpose was to revive my Legionnaire Alvar so that it could tank longer. It's also nice because of the other utilities which is to dispel any buffs from enemies it attacks as well as adding +1 melee to whole team with inspire.

Fifth Position, Merdaali Guardian - The main purpose for choosing Merdaali Guardian in this position was to keep the tanks alive by constantly healing them and repairing their armor. There's also not that many afflictions in odd manas so playing a healer can be really annoying as there are also not many opportunity monsters to kill the healer.

Final Position, Angelic Mandarin - The purpose for Angelic Mandarin was to defend from sneak monsters. It can heal itself with triage so it can just slow down any possible sneak teams since in odd mana Pelacor Bandit and Uraeus are available to use and they are pretty strong in the meta.

Did My Strategy Work? & Would I try differently next time?

Yes, my strategy worked. If you saw the battle, my Legionnaire Alvar was able to tank out the whole match and didn't even die! I mean it did die once but the revive came in from River Hellondate and with the Merdaali Guardian to heal and repair it just stayed alive until the end of the battle. Unfortunately, the opponent played with under leveled cards so it's hard to say that this was the best team I could have made. If I was to try differently, maybe I would have used Pelacor Bandit in the back because the speed and flying might have done better fending of sneak monsters than the Angelic Mandarin.

Do I Like Legionnaire Alvar? Why Or Why Not?

To answer this, I do like Legionnaire Alvar. It's a super nice 9 neutral mana tank; I find most neutral cards to be good and I like them because they can easily be combined with any element while playing. Personally, I also find the art for this card to be super cool. He looks like a total beast and has a cool pose.

Hey thanks :P. I agree with you. It's super annoying. Another annoying one is the agor + 2 resurrects 😂
