Introduction

Amazing the land whitepaper released and most assets just have been going up. It's insane that these gold foil reward legendaries as well as some gold foil chaos core cards were going for $18-25 dollars at a point of time. Now the floor for these are all around $50 bucks which is crazy. We also got a new promo card Vruz which I feel is a super solid card! In this post I want to talk about my thoughts on this new card as well as cover some of my thoughts on the land whitepaper.

Vruz

Splinterlands recently released a new promo for SPS stakers. Basically you were qualified for 1 Vruz per 1000 SPS staked. Since you get vouchers by staking SPS, I think this was basically a free card if you used those vouchers. I purchased around 16 copies for this card and I wasn't lucky enough to pull a gold foil. As of the current time of this post, this card is sitting around $0.46 for a regular foil and $7.40 for a gold foil. I still feel these prices seem to be on the low end as competitive players will buy up and combine this card to max level.

Vruz is super strong in my opinion at least in the higher levels. It's decent when it gets martyr but I feel the most solid spot is at the max level with true strike. This card seems to be like the undead badger from death which is also a 2 mana card but on steroids because of the true strike and the martyr.

I can see some use cases for Vruz because it has martyr. With Martyr you can try to suicide it in a thorns ruleset to buff 2 of your monsters. You can also throw this card in an opportunity ruleset to die and buff your creatures as well. I could see this card strong in Up, Close & Personal as well as even stevens , little league or low mana battles. It will definitely be interesting how people utilize this card at max level and I feel like this will be a solid card in the meta. Only time will tell.

Secrets of Praetoria

Finally, we have a lot of information on land from the land white paper which was released not too long ago. I can't possibly cover every aspect of this docs but I just want to highlight some things that I noticed.

Firstly, I noticed they gave insane utility to Runi. Runi can work as a power source and it also gives production bonus as well as finding totem fragments. It's no surprise Runi went up to like $800+ bucks on Opensea. There are most likely still more utilities coming to Runi that they have not announced yet and now I kind of regret I didn't get one. Now it's too expensive for my budget to get one.

Another thing that caught my eye is that we will have 14 terrain types and they will all have bonuses or penalties for certain elements. I find this great as it will balance out the cards being staked on land. Not everyone will just try to stake one bad card that they don't need to use in battles on land.

They are going to add another currency called grain which will be used to be consumed for cards to work on land. We are suppose to also get new cards as spells but I didn't see it on the whitepaper. I kind of have mixed feelings with adding another currency to be traded. I feel we already have enough with DEC and SPS but let's see how it goes.

We can find totem fragments on land and multiple copies can be combined to make a totem. The white paper says that there is still 30k-50k totems scattered across land. With this in mind, I feel like maybe people won't buy totems. They might just aim to get them from their land. I also believe after finding these totems, the totems prices will most likely go down.

Lastly, the lsat thing that caught my eye was what the options were the worker options. There are three worker options which are farming grain, mining sps and Secrets of Praetoria Research. The secrets of Praetoria Research is what caught my eye specifically. This is supposedly going to be a big project that every land owner will take part of if they choose to. Once the secret has been found, there will be airdrops and benefits given to those that helped contribute. This is still very vague in terms of what will happen but I feel it's a good fomo tactic. I really wonder what is the secret that will be revealed as well as the benefits from putting workers to do the secrets of Praetoria Research.

To conclude my thoughts, land is going to be the biggest thing that comes to Splinterlands this year. This is really going to add new game play as well as have a huge impact on all assets in the game which we have already seen recently with many assets rising such as Runi, Gold foil legendaries, etc. I feel there's also a lack of supply for higher leveled cards once everyone stakes on land; this will most likely bringing card prices even higher as well as rental prices. Since I'm renting some cards, I'm not looking forward to this. I hope that Splinterlands execute this white paper successfully and all the best. There really isn't enough for everyone so just get what you can while you can.
