One Month of Splinterlands....Something for the 50+ Folks

I started in early August. I had no idea what I was getting into, but I was intrigued. As you can see by my profile screenshot, my record is nothing to brag about. I have a less than 50% win rate. Although I do have a 5 win streak (yay me!). The reason I am sharing my record is because even though my gameplay isn't anything to write home about, I am having an absolutely fabulous time playing. Even when I've seen competitors pwn me in record time. Those matches are really quite impressive. I look back at their lineup and to see what I can learn from their strategy. I'm also getting support and coaching from my son who has been playing since April. Ya gotta love the digital natives who are quick to grasp how everything works.

Oh, and did I forget to mention the Play2Earn aspect of the game? Well, that part of the game is unlike any traditional game I played in my youth at the arcade. Remember those? I remember putting my quarters on the game to let other players know I was playing until my quarters ran out. I guess it was how we queued back in the day. The Play2Earn makes Splinterlands even more intriguing. I'm only a month in so I'm still working out my understanding of the value of Dark Energy Crystals (DEC), Splinterlands Shards (SPS), and the value of my owned cards.

Other than my initial $10 Summoner's Spellbook investment I haven't laid out any additional funds. I want to see how far I can go just by playing the Daily Quests and seeing what I get at the end of each season. I did get a surprise when a Gold Foil Sand Worm popped up. I've seen that card go up and down in value in the short time I've owned it. It started off at $13.50 (which already in essence paid for my initial $10 outlay) and then saw it jump up to $50 value. Currently, it sits at around $37. I'm not keen to sell anything since I'm barely beginning to build my deck, but I might be open to leasing it out...once I figure out how that works. So much to learn and so many ways to earn.

So, if you're like me, a 50+ woman who thinks you're too old to play a game on the blockchain, I'm here to offer you some words of encouragement. Give it a try. You just might find that even if you're not very good at it (like me) that you will have loads of fun. I'm still not sure I can properly use the title gamer to describe myself, but I do enjoy playing Splinterlands. So, there's that. BTW, I still have no idea what I'm doing. But, I am having quite a bit of fun figuring it out.

If you're an older player let's get connected. I'm @shinyobjects and would like to meet with fellow 50+ Splinterlands players. Wishing you well. Happy gameplay. Cheers!

Hey @honeyed, you should absolutely jump into the wonderful world of #Splinterlands! I'm having so much fun and enjoying discussing game play strategy with my youngest son. We go walking in the evening and I tell him about some of my big wins and stunning losses. He is offering me strategy tips and I'm taking his advice to get better at the game.
