Splinterlands - so many changes so little time!

There have been so many changes of late it's really hard to keep up but I thought I'd write a quick post on some of the notable recent changes I've felt the impact of over the last month or so.

First things first, feel free to just go to their website directly but if Splinterlands interests you I'd be very happy if you joined up with my referral link:

Lets get straight to it:

Ranked Rewards

There has been big changes to Ranked rewards over the last 3-4 seasons as you'll have seen from previous posts. From a simple do a daily quest (requiring three to five wins under certain conditions) and get a fixed chest number based on your rank to the much more complicated play to earn reward points for both a "daily focus" and for your total chests at the end of a season.

I won't go into detail here but this has meant there is a much greater incentive to play more games to get more rewards.

On the upside this has meant my rewards chests have increased dramatically in number so I've been enjoying that....

Bot Busting

Penalties for using Starter cards (and a further penalty for using them) have both been implemented to reduce the impact of multi-accounting and bots.

More recently there has been a change to the ECR rules meaning if you get under 50% each game will use up 5% ECR to further curb excessive play (read bots!).

Generally I am not a fan of bots as I don't like the idea of them taking value away from real active human players. One day I might look into setting one up I've resisted the "dark side" so far.

Daily Quests for Chests

In conjunction with the Ranked Rewards changes Daily quests have also changed - the biggest change of late has been that you dont have to use the "required" cards to earn rewards from the daily quests. They have become more of a "bonus to your daily reward" as opposed to use these cards only to get the rewards system.

At first I didn't like that as I was confused about it a bit but I am generally liking it now as every win gets you both season and daily rewards. Using the Daily focus cards just means you get more points for the Daily quest but you're not stuck just with a certain set of cards (i.e. only Life) now.

New Daily Quest Focus rules

One thing that is interesting is a new set of rules have been added to the types of daily quests you can get. Now there appear to be both ability and splinter based focuses. You might get extra points for using a certain splinter, on other days a certain type of ability (i.e. the Sneak Focus means use snipe, sneak or opportunity for a bonus).

Splinterlands put up the following list of the types of rules you might see:

I think this is a great change as it ups the variety and as you don't have to use the cards to get the daily points you're not stuck for the day with something you cant work with!

The Big One - Wild vs Modern

It took a long time coming but the Wild/Modern split finally arrived. In short Wild means you can use any card, Modern restricts it to cards related to Untamed and Chaos Legion.

Did you chose to use Modern or Wild card set rules?

In theory Modern is better for newer players who missed getting the other cards but in practice I've found that Wild is much easier to play - maybe it's being more used to it? I find the restrictions in Modern mean there are less choices and I seem to come up against people with better decks/cards all the time so for now I've been doing Wild mostly!

Anyway, I've yet to decide how to continue with Splinterlands at the moment, the game feels like it is getting more challenging to make headway while there is still a lot of bullish hype from people who have better accounts - to me if feels like it needs a significant cash investment to really make the game worthwhile now, particularly with the starter card changes.

This pretty much sums up how I feel about Splinterlands right now as well.

While I hope things improve I feel like it is just going to get harder if you weren't in early when things like Land etc get implemented too...

Thanks for reading!
