Splinterlands - Weekly Battle Challenge, Elven Cutthroat

Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenges - Another week, Another Challenge so here's my entry....

It's a neutral challenge this week - Elven Cutthroat!

The Elven Cutthroat costs three mana, has one health, one melee attack, three speed and sneak. Due to the speed even with the low life the Cutthroat can often get at least one hit in!

The Battle

The rules for this battle were:

• 29 mana cap

• Lost Legendaries (no legendary cards allowed)

• Weak Magic (Magic hits armor first)

• Water, Life, Death and Dragons allowed.

The opposition had used a lot of Alric + Djinn Oshannus in his previous fights but I wasn't sure what he would use with no legendaries allowed and with weak magic.

I had not used water at all for a few fights due to the Daily quest so I thought I'd try to surprise him with a magic heavy team.

Alric Stormbringer (3) for the plus two magic of course.

Torhilo the Frozen (9) for the void armor, four melee damage, four armor and eight life - an awesome tank with magic resistance!

Albatross (1) in second slot just to fill in the gap and since its one of my few gold foils a boost to DEC if I win!

Venari Wavesmith (5) in third slot for the magic attack and the protect ability - two armor bonus to the team!

Medusa (4) in fourth slot for the magic attack and three life giving it a bit of durability.

Elven Cutthroat (3) in fifth slot for the sneak attack and the challenge of course!

Elven Mystic (4) in last slot for the magic attack and three life durability.

Using up all the mana allowed this team can dish out a solid six magic damage, four melee damage and one sneak melee damage which is pretty solid. It can be reduced if the enemy has a void armor tank or uses Bortus though. A risk but hopefully the enemy wont be expecting it!

The opposition went with a life team:

Tyrus (3) as summoner for plus one armor

Clay Golem (6) in first slot as he is a great tank vs magic thanks void armor. Defense aside he is also a a strong melee (3) attacker

Truthspeaker (3) in second slot as a speedbump but more importantly for the protect ability giving plus two armor to the team.

Luminous Eagle (6) in third slot - a flying reach enabled melee (2) attacker. Has three speed and five life too so a solid tank in its own right.

Divine Healer (3) in fourth slot - for the heals of course.

Herbalist (2) in fifth slot - for the low mana cost mainly!

Mantoid (6) in last slot - for the two ranged attack and decent five life to shield the backline from sneaks.

His team was pretty solid and mitigated my magic attack so my ploy to use water didn't quite fool him. Notwithstanding that I have a strong magic attack so I just need to my team to survive long enough to dish out the damage - the Protect ability giving armor will help with that.

So on to the battle!

Turn One: Cutthroat sneaks Mantoid for one armor damage. Wavesmith, Medusa and Mystic all hit the Clay Golem for a reduced three magic damge taking out his armor. The mantoid takes out the Albatross' armor and then the Herbalist and Clay Golem hit Torhilo for four armor damaage. Torhilo hits back for four melee damage on the Golem who gets healed for two life. At the end of the turn this leaves Torhilo with two armor and eight life and the Clay Golem with five life.

Turn two: Cutthroat again goes first doing one more armor damage to Mantoid. Wavesmith, Medusa and Mystic reduce Clay Golem to two life. Mantoid kills Albatross. Herbalist chips at Torhilo for one armor damage. Torhilo kills the Golem ending the turn. Torhilo now has one armor and eight life while he has lost his Golem tank. Truthspeaker is but a speedbump as a tank but the Eagle is now in play thanks to reach.

Turn three: Eagle goes first this time taking out Torhilo's armor. Cuthroat takes out mantoids last armor. Wavesmith, Medusa and Mystic take out the Truthspeaker (slow due to Weak Magic). Herbalist hits Torhilo for one life and Torhilo misses the Eagle. The turn ends with Torhilo on seven life and the Eagle with one armor and five life.

Turn four: Eagle first again reducing Torhilo to five life. Cutthroat hits the mantoid for one life, Wavesmith, Medusa and Mystic take the eagle down to one life. Mantoid hits wavesmith reducing him to one life. Herbalist reduces Torhilo to four life and Torhilo kills the eagle. Torhilo still has four life and he now has Divine Healer as his tank.

Turn five: Cutthroat reduces Mantoid to three life. Wavesmith, Medusa and Mystic kill the Divine Healer. Mantoid Kills Wavesmith. Torhilo hits the new tank, Herbalist taking out his armor. Torhilo still has four life, Herbalist is his tank now with two life (and cant attack). The match is all but over.

Turn six: Cutthroat reduces Mantoid to two life, Medusa kills the Herbalist and Mystic kills the Mantoid. Game over!

So the battle took a while thanks to Weak Magic but all in all it was fairly straight forward. The elven cutthroat was more than a filler too slowly chipping away at the Mantoid so it was an easy kill in the end.

And that's a wrap, Challenge Done, Battle Won! Another win - not as easy this time but good tactics won out!
