Hello everyone, in this post I will talk about the Serpentine Spy card from the fire deck and why he is a dangerous opponent in your battles (also an excellent ally).

First I believe that everyone knows him or the vast majority since it is a card from a slightly old edition and also because he is available to be played at level 1 for free, so you often see him in battles, especially in low leagues (I'm not saying he's bad at high leagues, quite the opposite because he's incredibly strong at high levels). The Serpentine Spy is a card from the fire deck as mentioned before and its type of attack is melee, to have a better look at its stats you need to click on the card in the (Cards) or (Marketplace) part and go to (Stats), I will leave their image below.

With the image above you can get a better view of how the Serpentine Spy card works in battle. The first thing you need to know about this card is that its attack is melee and this type of attack has a restriction which is not being able to attack in any position other than the first one, but there are exceptions depending on the ability the card has or the battle rule. These exceptions are the Reach abilities (Allows the melee card to attack from the second position), the Sneak ability (Allows the melee card to attack from any position and the opponent's card positioned in the last position) and finally the Opportunity ability (allows the card to attack from any position and attacks the opponent's lowest life card). In addition to abilities, there are also rules that override this restriction, which are Equal Opportunity (All monsters will attack from any position (range monsters cannot attack from position 1) and will target the enemy Monster with the lowest health) and Melee Mayhem (Melee attack from anywhere. We recommend using your strongest melee attackers with abilities like blast, opportunity, retaliate and inspire. You could also select a summoner that will lower your opponents melee power, Zintar Mortaus or Camila Sungazer).

In the case of Serpentine Spy he has the Opportunity ability so he will be able to attack from any position even if it is a melee card and will attack the opponent's card with the lowest health. This ability is incredibly powerful in battles and a perfect match for Serpentine Spy because it will have 2 secondary uses. The first was the one I mentioned earlier which is being able to attack from any position. The second would be more of a complement to the first one because the Serpentine Spy has low health so he's an easy target for your opponents, but being able to position him the way you want will give you a big advantage of putting him in a protected position. and thus make it difficult for him to be quickly defeated in battle.

Now you understand a part of how Serpentine Spy performs in battle, but that's not all the advantages he has. In addition to being a melee card that can attack from any position, it has a high amount of attack that will be excellent for a card like it that attacks the lowest health card. It also has a high amount of speed and this means that in battles it will be the first or one of the first cards to attack (with the exception of the Reverse Speed ​​rule). Its last advantage is that it has a low mana cost (3), so it's the type of card that you can use in almost any battle that allows it without being limited to just having it on the battlefield.

Before I forget Serpentine Spy also has another ability besides Opportunity which is Poison, but this ability is only acquired when he is at level 10, so you would only be able to use it having him at level 10 and playing in the league diamond or champion. The Poison ability gives Serpentine Spy a 50% chance to apply this effect when attacking a card and deal 2 damage to it at the end of the round.

Serpentine Spy has only 2 disadvantages, the first one I already mentioned is when there is a Reverse Speed ​​rule in battle, this rule makes the card with the lowest speed attack first, so for the Serpentine Spy that has a high amount of speed it is a big disadvantage. The second disadvantage has also been mentioned, which is its low amount of health, so it's the type of card that if targeted won't last very long on the battlefield.

These are the advantages and disadvantages of having this amazing card in your battles, but as you can see there are more advantages so I believe having it in battles is a great choice.

Serpentine Spy is a card from the Untamed edition, so to get him there are only 3 options:

The first option is to buy from the marketplace in Splinterlands. If you choose this option then just look at the price of the card, which and it would be $2.58 (1 BCX) currently and choose the payment method (Dec or Credits).

The second option is to rent the card. Choosing this option will cost you much less but you won't have the card in your collection, so every time the rent runs out you'll have to rent it again. The current rental value of the card is 6.08 DEC (level 1) currently.

The third option is to buy untamed edition packs and try your luck. This option will depend on your luck, but as Serpentine Spy is a common card so it won't be that hard to get him, but the current value of the untamed pack is pretty high so it doesn't pay to want a Serpentine Spy card opening the pack. The current price of the untamed pack on Hive Engine is 27$.

Apart from the last option that in my opinion doesn't pay much to take a Serpentine Spy in the untamed pack, the first two are great choices and if you buy the Serpentine Spy at higher levels it will be cheaper than buying it individually.
