Search my Soulbound

I haven't been playing much Splinterlands over the last week while travelling, but each night I would try to put in a half hour or so to push my way up the ranks. Before going, I dumped a lot of time into the Modern side and got just about nowhere and while I did get into C2 today, my efficiency is abysmal at 47% win/loss.

Modern:

I did better in Wild however, but I only made it to C3, though I am happy it was in 102 games with a 66% win rate. Still, it seems very hard to get a decent string of wins going for me and I am losing to a lot of accounts that I haven't seen before or, I used to beat easily. I am finding it very hard to compete at the moment and I wonder what will happen when the new cards are released.

Wild:

Speaking of, the new reward cards are supposedly going to be "soulbound" (can't be sold or delegated) until they are out of print, which should at least keep their price up a bit more during the run, as the bots won't be able to dump them to cover their rentals etc and, to dump them later, they will have to add DEC to unbind them.

The other thing that is going to throw my game off a lot will be the new abilities coming in, Conscript, Martyr, Weapons training. Conscript allows for Gladius cards to be played outside of brawls. This will be very interesting, as while the Summoners with it are more expensive, I don't know what it is going to mean for the bot accounts - do they have a lot of Gladius cards?

This is my set:

As you can see, the set isn't exactly up for Champion-level play, but there might be a few in there that would come in handy from time to time. A level 2 Quora might be useful with Llama for example. And, because these are soulbound already, it will be interesting to see what of the bot accounts has been brawling as well, otherwise they will have no Gladius cards other than the ones they were able to pick up from the merit chests.

Will these be unbound like the Rewards cards at some point too?

I am not sure if it is possible to see how wide the distribution is on Gladius cards, but it would be a useful indicator of what is going to happen once Gladius cards can be used in battle. There are going to be a few accounts with very strong lineups at times that will be close to unbeatable perhaps.

With the 43 new rewards cards coming that are soulbound, it is going to take most high-level accounts a while to build up a suitably playable collection, which means early on, they are going to have far more impact in the lower-level leagues where they are useful. This will be interesting to see what kind of advantage it gives, because it could help some move up a level or two and compete higher.

Weapons Training is also going to be a very interesting ability, as it will grant a similar attack to adjacent cards that don't have an attack - for example, a magic card squeezed between Almo and Arius will give them both some kind of Magic attack, which could be devastating, especially with a Almo up front with Kitty summoning.

All of these changes are going to "throw a spanner in the works" - a spanner is a wrench - and it is going to disrupt the gameplay quite a lot and require adjustment from everyone. This is more than just a set coming out, and more than just new abilities, because having the Gladius cards crossing over into regular play is going to benefit all of those accounts that have been building their soulbound decks for the last few years.

That is not me however, as I have only been brawling with Shield of Glory for the last six months or so. However, with this crossover, it is possible that more people are going to want to become active in brawls, which could see new guilds coming in and inactive brawlers competing for spots. This can see more DEC sinking into Guild development also, especially to boost the possibility of getting Gladius cards.

For me at least, from a gameplay perspective, I think the coming changes are a welcome addition to mix it up a bit more and support the committed players who haven't only been playing for an immediate ROI. Of course, like always, the "well-carded" players who use bots will have the advantage, but at least there is some hope for others. Add Land into the equation on top and things will get a little messy soon enough. Time will tell if people will get interested again, but looking at the markets, card prices seem to be recovering.

Lots of things to consider.

So.... I could be completely misreading or misunderstanding the soulbound reward cards but I imagine they just won't have any price at all, and won't exist in the market in the same way Gladius cards don't.

Do you wait until you have enough cards to upgrade a level before combining your Gladius cards? It looks like you're only one BCX away from a Level 3 Captain Katie.

I've been playing Brawls from the first day, but you've actually got much higher cards than I do in 6 months, entirely from being in a higher tiered league. That's pretty amazing! I'd say that's definitely going to try and push people to jump in higher leagues, level up their cards, etc. Very motivating, even if it's a 'rich getting richer' type way.

I would guess that you and I just won't see any of these soulbound reward cards in play for 6 months or a year honestly, but they should be very, very interesting in Bronze.

I'd say the well-carded players with bots will really just ignore the soulbound reward cards until they are out of print.

Yeah, pretty sure this is the case until they are "unbound" after they are out of print.

Yes, that way I can keep track, rather than a combine all thing. It is a reminder that they are upgraded. I would like a Katie, but I barely play it.

Really?

I have never looked into it, but SoG have been really good. I am a mid-range brawler there though.

Should be a disrupted next few months :)

Truly!

I've missed maybe 4 or 5 brawls since the very first one...

I'm not catastrophically behind, but you've definitely taken the lead... which ah, definitely makes me nervous should I catch you in the Wilds.

I think I was lucky to be able to get into SoG at the right time and now they have expanded to Kingdom of Glory, with multiple guilds playing in higher ranks. Also got lucky with getting a few Quora to go to L2 :)

Wanted to ask you, why you don't focus only on one, wild or classic, instead of spending so much time on both? You know one is enough for the rewards level, right?

I brawl in Gold Wild normally, but I get higher in Modern during the season. It is good for me to get used to playing a range I think - more fun too :) Also, more expensive, as I have to rent.

Seems also a lot of extra time used for it.

A little extra time, but not too bad. I wish I was more efficient at getting into Champion though, then I might be able to make a push for C1 - I have never made it there.

My best is C2 also. but that was long time ago when it was easier.

Are you know when new cards are released as you mentioned it will be more difficult to win when new soulbond cards are released, another thing is how we can get these new cards, are it's available for everyone

When it’s soulbound, no one can buy and sell at all right? So there wouldn’t be a price for any of them?

There will be no price for them - unless someone is selling their whole account. When I say "keep the price up" it is about their value more than a market price. When they are out of print, it will be an interesting market.

I am looking forward to the new cards!

Do you know when Untamed and Dice will be dropped off Modern format?

Are they dropping them off? Dice has only been out a couple years.

No. Just wondering when they will join alpha beta before buying more.

Untamed will move to Wild when Rebellion comes into play and Dice will follow once the new full mini-set is in use. I used full mini-set as there is expected to be a promo mini-set coming up based on the road map.

So, will this drop the value of Untamed and Dice?

Yeh, they have already started dropping the value of UT cards. Quite a few bargains to be gotten if you are patient. You should check out our KOG discord. Quite a bit of buying for some of our members lately.

Don't worry, I don't think any player has Diamond level Gladiators yet. Let's also see how long it takes to get a Diamond Level Soulbound summoner. I don't expect we'll see them at high level play immediately.

Yeah, it will take awhile for most, though it is going to be interesting once they start appearing.

I am finding it very hard to compete at the moment

I don't like battle rulesets with 3 rules. They makes everything even harder. Or maybe I just don't like rules...

:)

Much harder, but also harder for the bots :)

At first I was kind of on the fence about the new reward cards being soulbound. Then I saw they are going to make them soulbound only until they go out of print. That made a lot more sense to me. I am hoping there are some favorites that will retain a ton of value when they are finally able to be traded. I hadn't seen the new rule sets they are coming out with. That is pretty cool.

It will make it interesting to see what happens with the cards once they are out of print - but that is 2 years away. I assume that I will combine what I can and then leave singles, if that is possible.

Ooooh rarely do we get dedicated Splinterlands content from you Taraz, but I like it. Glad you are growing your Gladius collection along with us in Kingdom of Glory! I think the soulbound reward cards will breathe some fresh life into the daily ranked grind and is already having a positive effect on engagement.
