Life is not complete without death. Surely everything that lives now will die one way or the other. But death is not void and emptiness like many people think. A race in the splinterlands has been able to learn the dark art of drawing mana from the clutches of death himself. This week, our task is so demanding that we have to learn this dark art and defeat our enemies with monsters from the death element.

Welcome, warrior, to my entry for this week's SHARE YOUR BATTLE CHALLENGE. Let's get started...

THE SOUL STRANGLER

The Soul Strangler is an ancient race of vampires that walk in the day as normal people mostly alongside noblemen. These creatures might look like your average person in the day but when it's time to feed, they transform to monstrous beings with the thirst for human blood. Apart from being many times stronger and faster than any prey, they also have the ability to take the life force of their victims with just their minds.

Here are the stats of this monster's card;

image.png

The Soul Strangler is a pretty decent card for a 3 mana cost. This monster starts off with a 2 damage range attack, a decent speed of 2 and health of 2. What I like the most about this card is that his damage increases to 3 at level 3 and 4 at level 6. The health of the Soul Strangler is maxed to 4 at level 7 while his speed is maxed to 3 at level 4. Getting a max copy of this card would be ideal because he gets the poison ability at the highest level, level 8.

For this challenge, I will be using the Soul Strangler at level 4.

Strategy

Because of the Noxious fumes ruleset, the basic strategy would not be to defeat all the enemy's monsters but to try as much as possible to outlast them. Luckily, the Death element has just the monsters and summoner for the job.

Below is the info of my lineup👇:

SUMMONERimage.png
NAMETHADDIUS BROOD
SPLINTERDEATH
EDITIONCHAOS LEGION
RARITYRARE
LEVEL4
MANA COST4
BUFFS-1 MAGIC ATTACK, -1 HEALTH

Because I want to outlast the enemy, Thaddius Brood is a great option for a summoner. His -1 Health debuff is perfect with the poison because it will cause the other monsters to get taken out quicker. Also his -1 magic damage will help a lot because the enemy might want to use magic monster that will do damage to my monsters' health directly.

SPLINTERDEATH
EDITIONCHAOS LEGION
RARITYRARE
LEVEL4
MANA COST6
ATTACK3X MELEE ATTACK
SPEED3X
HEALTH11X
TOUGHNESS0
ABILITIESTHORNS

With a health of 11, Cursed Windeku can serve as a pretty decent tank and still survive the noxious fumes. The thorns ability just makes this monster more deadly to the enemy and effective to me.

MONSTER 2image.png
NAMELIFE SAPPER
SPLINTERDEATH
EDITIONCHAOS LEGION
RARITYRARE
LEVEL4
MANA COST3
ATTACK2X MAGIC ATTACK
SPEED3X
HEALTH2X
TOUGHNESS0
ABILITIESLIFE LEECH

Still in a bid to survive the noxious fumes long enough, I decided to summon Life Sapper. Thanks to his Life Leech ability, he will add +1 health whenever he does damage. This should help him survive for the first two rounds at least.

EDITIONCHAOS LEGION
RARITYCOMMON
LEVEL5
MANA COST4
ATTACKNONE
SPEED4X
HEALTH6X
TOUGHNESS0
ABILITIESFLYING, SCAVENGER, BACKFIRE

Riftwing is one of my favorite Death monsters and it would make perfect sense to place him in this lineup. This monster is not here to fight but to survive and thanks to his scavenger he will do just that. If by any chance he gets to the frontline, he should have enough health to last longer than the enemy and also be a threat with that backfire.

MONSTER 4image.png
NAMESOUL STRANGLER
SPLINTERDEATH
EDITIONCHAOS LEGION
RARITYRARE
LEVEL4
MANA COST3
ATTACK3X RANGE ATTACK
SPEED3X
HEALTH2X
TOUGHNESS0
ABILITIESNONE AT LVL 4

Right in the fourth position is the star vampire himself. As a range attack monster, it would make sense to place this monster at the back. He should be able to deal some damage before he is taken out by the poison.

MONSTER 5image.png
NAMECHAOS AGENT
SPLINTERNEUTRAL
EDITIONCHAOS LEGION
RARITYCOMMON
LEVEL5
MANA COST1
ATTACKNONE
SPEED3X
HEALTH3X
TOUGHNESS0
ABILITIESDODGE

Defending the backline is the Chaos Agent himself. I really just started to like this monster because of that dodge ability. He has a high chance of getting missed and so can guard against sneak monsters. This monster will be able to absorb some damage from any quick sneak monsters making it possible for Soul Stranger to do some damage before he is taken out.

The Battle

My SplinterEnemy's Splinter
image.pngimage.png

Round 1:

  • As usual, the summoners start off with their buffs. Thaddius Brood reduces the lives of the enemy's monsters by 1 while the enemy uses Quix the Devious to reduce my monsters speed and Soul Strangler's range damage.
  • The enemy's Supply Runner increases the speed of the monsters on the other side before throwing blades at Cursed Windeku, x2 damage, 9 health remaining.
  • Uraeus launches a sneak attack at Chaos Agent but misses.
  • The enemy's Desert Dragon viciously charges at the Cursed Windeku causing him a damage of x5, 4 health remaining.
  • The Desert Dragon does not leave unscratched because the thorns from the Cursed Windeku slashes the beast, x2 damage damage, 1 toughness remaining.
  • One by one, Life Sapper, Soul Strangler and Cursed Windeku launch massive attacks at the Desert Dragon taking down the raging beast.

Round 2:

  • The noxious fumes take out Uraeus and Scavo Hireling on the enemy's side and sadly my Soul Strangler as well.
  • Now left by himself in the frontline with just 2 health, Supply Runner stands no chance. Quickly, Life Sapper throws a magic ball at him which puts him out of his misery.
    DEFEATED!

Victory!

Divider.png

The battle ended as quick as it started. The enemy had some really powerful monster but in the end, the Death team outlasted them in the deadly noxious fumes. Soul Strangler was taken out but he was very impactful. Quix can learn a thing or two from this mighty team.

Did My Strategy Work?

Divider.png

Yes it absolutely did. Firstly, using Thaddius Brood to reduce the health of all the enemy monsters was smart because, if not for that, the noxious fumes would not have taken out Uraeus and Scavo Hireling after the the first round.

Despite the hits he took, especially the 5x damage from Desert Dragon, Cursed Windeku was able to stay strong as a tank and still survive the noxious fumes. The extra health that Life Sapper received after attacking Desert Dragon was also very important because it kept him alive and let him finish Supply Runner.

Another thing that was very important in this battle was the placement of Chaos Agent at the back. That Dodge caused Uraeus to miss when he launched a sneak attack. Uraeus did not get to do any damage before he was taken out.

Divider.png

Do I like the Soul Strangler?

Divider.png

Well yes I do. I really just like this card because of the decent damage and speed it has at level 4 for just 3 mana. It is very useful in low mana battles like this one and can also make a difference in a battle with the "Back To Basics" rule set.
