Hello there, Splinterlands community! Welcome to my very first post about this awesome game.

I’m a total noob on Splinterlands. I signed into the game for the first time back in March but I just started playing it about a week and a half ago. I’ve gotten to know what some things mean and do. I’ve seen myself go from playing blindly to actually planning strategies. I have to admit, the game is still really complicated for me. There are a lot of stuff I don’t understand but I’m willing to learn as the months go by.

When I started playing splinterlands initially, I fought just two battles which I lost of course. Even though I had read the guides and played the tutorial, I still had no idea what I was doing so I decided to take a step back and learn. The next time I played was on Sunday the 15th of may and out of sheer luck, I won the battle. As you can imagine, I was totally ecstatic. I was screaming so loud that I had won even though I had no idea what I did.

Winning my first battle got me very excited and made me want to commit more time and effort into Splinterlands. Today I want to talk about that battle and a few things I learned.

The Combat Rules and My Strategy

Divider.png

The Combat rules for that match were standard. The Mana cap was 18 and all the splinters were playable. As for my strategy, I didn't really have any. I just knew that I wasn't supposed to put a range monster at the first or second position so they won't move up and can be able to attack. With that in mind, I chose my splint and selected my summoner and monsters.

RARITYRARE
MANA COST4
BUFFS+1 MELEE ATTACK, +1 HEALTH

Starting on this game I liked the Earth splint but for this battle I decided to just try out the Fire Splint. Since Pyre just adds +1 Speed to the monsters, I decided to go with Tarsa so she can buff up my monsters a little more.

EDITIONCHAOS LEGION
RARITYCOMMON
MANA COST5
ATTACK2X MELEE ATTACK
SPEED1X
HEALTH5X
ABILITIESREACH

Because the mana cap of the battle was 18, I needed to squeeze in all my monsters. So I knew I needed a monster that would hold for a long while in the first position. This is why I went for Radiated Brute. Plus I think he looks pretty cool.

RARITYCOMMON
MANA COST3
ATTACK2X MELEE ATTACK
SPEED3X
HEALTH1X
ABILITIESOPPORTUNITY

I liked the serpentine spy right from the tutorials fight. With X2 damage, X3 peed and the opportunity ability, this monster makes up in skill for what it lacks in health. A great way to hit the unexpecting enemy lines but in this battle I didn't even know that.

NAMEELVEN MYSTIC
SPLINTNEUTRAL
EDITIONUNTAMED
RARITYRARE
MANA COST4
ATTACK1X MAGIC ATTACK
SPEED2X
HEALTH3X
ABILITIESNONE AT LVL 1

For the magic monster, I chose Elven Mystic. I wouldn't say I had any reason for choosing this particular mage.

SPLINTNEUTRAL
EDITIONCHAOS LEGION
RARITYRARE
MANA COST2
ATTACK1X RANGED ATTACK
SPEED1X

ABILITIESNONE

Just like the Elven Mystic, I don't think I had any plan when I chose the Xenith Archer. I think I just wanted to fill up the mana cap and I felt like I needed to add a range monster and so I chose this one

As the enemy's summoner disappears into the darkness, I emerge victorious for the first time.

My Mistakes and plans to improve

Divider.png

Of course I've made a lot of mistakes and I'm sure I'll make a lot more as I go. One mistake I made in this battle and others was going in without a plan. Even though I won this battle, I really didn't know what I was doing. It was sheer luck but I ran out of that luck. I played a couple more games after that and I didn't win a single one. I tried to be smart with my placements but I just didn't cut it.

Another thing I've been doing wrong is that I've been using monsters with the three types of attacks. What I mean is that in every game, I make sure I place at least one attack monster, one magic monster and one range monster. I used to think that was how the game was supposed to be played but when I watched some of my battles again, I realized that I'd been doing it all wrong. I noticed that many opponents did not use all the attack types. Many of them didn't even use range attacks in the battles. This is something I had been doing wrong because when a range monster gets to the first position, it just sits there as it is helplessly slaughtered.

Now what?

Well, I'm glad you asked.

Firstly, I really want to get a spellbook. I want to take this game seriously by investing in it. If I keep playing for free, I'm not sure I'll commit so much time and effort into it. I also want to be able to make money on splinterlands and be a real threat to anyone that crosses me. I just feel like getting a spellbook would bring opportunities that I wouldn't get otherwise so I'll just plan for that. When I get the money, I'll surely get a spellbook!

Also, I want to learn how to build good lineups and come up with awesome strategies that would help me stand a chance against my opponents. I have to move up the ladder. It won't be cool if I'm stuck in the novice league forever now, would it?
