My Splinterlands Blog #106 - Not Everything Shall Pass

avatar

Welcome to another article where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! A couple of updates have been rolled out to the game since my last article. Heh, it used to be updates only happened once every few months. The biggest new thing, in terms of gameplay, would be the addition of three new rule sets.

You can now get rules where all the monsters have Thorns, Reflect Magic, or Return Fire - which deal damage back to attackers from melee, magic, and ranged damage respectively. This can make for some interesting games when two of these rules come up together. There were a lot of smaller updates and fixes, which you can read more about here.

The new rule set icons.

The other major item is that the 2nd Riftwatcher's air drop card was added. Originally this was going to be a skeletal dragon, but it was decided that didn't fit well with the stats. Redoing the art delayed the release, but it was just released at the time of this writing. The card is high damage, but extremely low health and fairly slow.

Something of a glass cannon card.

The new Runi card released on the Ethereum network is still not yet playable in the game. But, they have announced that the Lux Vega summoner from Splinterfest will go on sale next week. I think that's about it for news, so let's move on to the breakdown of this season so far:

I opened one Gladiator pack:

A decent pack with three rare cards, though no gold foils to help my usual fray.

The Rest:

No real trading or tournaments this past week, as usual of late. To call back to the title of this article, the votes to add dark energy crystals (DEC) as an option for buying Riftwatcher packs and Node Licenses were both voted down. What did pass was removing the DEC rewards from liquidity pools, as well as adding SPS as a reward for Guild Brawls. All of these, except the last one, were put up to try to drag the value of DEC back towards its intended value of 1,000 DEC = $1.

It looks like a vote to burn the remaining unsold Chaos Legion packs starting in December and ending in March 2023 is going to pass. This will remove 25,000 packs from the store a day until they are gone - essentially admitting the set was over printed for the number of players. Granted, the bear market has hurt interest in crypto games a bit.

And that's about it for this week. I'm trying to crawl my way out of Gold, but I expect that won't happen until near the end of the season. Either way, I'll be back next week with a season wrap up! Thank you for reading!
