My Splinterlands Blog #49 – Missing The End of the Season

avatar

Welcome to another weekly update on my attempt to challenge the Splinterlands ranked leagues! Initially it was a self challenge, to see how far I could get with the initial set of cards plus whatever I could win. But, that kind of fell apart around week 30 (with the game integrating with the WAX network and users being able to buy and sell cards on Atomic Hub).

Life has been a bit hectic this past week, with some really bad timing of stuff as far as Splinterlands activity went. I apologize to anyone who put me in their bracket for the Cerberus Cup tournament this past Saturday. I ended up having to take someone to the emergency room, and missed the tournament.

I am pretty bummed about having missed the chance to play in it. In similar fashion, I ended up missing the last day of the season while trying to pick up that person from the hospital. They are (mostly) fine now, and I try not to go too much into real-life stuff, but this had a big impact on my Splinterlands gaming, so I felt like I should mention it.

This has also not been a great week for Splinterlands, at least in terms of stability. Paypal transactions seem to have been suspended, the seasonal rewards seem to have glitched for a lot of players, and the game seems to not be working for some people via browser at the moment. If you didn't see your season rewards, there's a nice page with steps on how to check what they were here.

Over 2,000 tickets got submitted when season rewards glitched out and didn't display on the UI for some people.

Support is still pretty overwhelmed with the backlog. There are over 10,000 tickets and a fair number of those require some decent research time to confirm stuff actually was missing. There are also a lot of issues that can only be addressed by the developer, and he's pretty busy right now. Anyhow, on to the usual breakdown of the past week!

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 355 - Win 5 with Water. With reward cards running out, and no replacements added quite yet these are a bit easier to list. For completing this daily quest, I got 36 (11 + 10 + 7 + 8) Dark Energy Crystals (DEC).

Daily Quest # 356 - Win 5 with Sneak. For finishing this quest, I got a nice chest with 1,201 DEC in it, a Gold potion, a Legendary potion, and Nightmare (common monster card)!

Daily Quest # 357 - Win 5 with Snipe. For completing this daily quest, I got a Legendary potion and 28 DEC (15 + 5 + 8),

Daily Quest # 358 - Win 5 with Sneak. For completing this daily quest, I received 1 Gold potion, 27 (13 + 14) DEC, and a Gold Foil Chainspinner!

As prices continue to inflate, still in print Gold Foil commons are now priced around $10!

Daily Quest # 359 - Win 5 with Fire. For finishing this fire quest, I found 437 DEC (400 + 13 + 24) and a Legendary potion.

Daily Quest # 360 - Win 5 with Life.. rerolled to Win 5 with Snipe. I had rented a Llama and Yodin for the Cerberus cup that I missed, so figured I might as well re-roll for Fire or Earth. For finishing the daily quest, I got 30 DEC (10 + 14 + 6) and a legendary monster card, Almo Cambio!

Not my favorite Legendary, but still a card that I didn't have before!

Daily Quest # 361 - Win 5 with Death. For completing this daily quest, I received 1 Gold potion, 1 Legendary potion, and 54 (13 + 41) DEC.

I opened two packs with all the potions I got, though I missed getting an original screenshot of one of them. I'm down to 50 packs in total, and 26 left of the ones I got many months ago with the intention to open. I'm really tempted to sell the rest to fund buying Chaos Legion packs, but I'm also tempted to open them all since Untamed cards are so expensive right now.

Two rares in this one, even if neither were summoners.

The one I had to pull off PeakMonsters had a nice epic and a rare!

Tournaments:

Again, I was very sad that I missed the Cerberus Cup tournament. I actually only played in one tournament this past week, and I missed submitting teams on day two while visiting the hospital longer than planned.

Sunday Bronze Blunderbuss, no legendary cards, all sets tournament. I went 9-2 the first day... and then missed day two, as noted above. I still managed to come in 77th place for 100 DEC at least.

Guild Brawls:

Guild Brawl #31, playing Gold foil Bronze, Untamed set only. I had no opponents this brawl. The guild also finished in 4th place in our grouping, so not our best showing of late.

Guild Brawls 2.0 has also come out, though our guild hasn't upgraded any of the new buildings yet, so there were no real changes for us yet. The main new feature is the Gladiator set of cards, which you can only buy with merits earned from winning brawls after paying for at least level 1 versions of the new buildings They did also include a new minor graphics update, were you now see the summoner abilities on the combat screen.

The Rest:

I did some flipping of cards across the in-game market and Atomic Hub. Only one High Priest Darius card made its way into my collection so far. The price of cards has continued to climb, as I constantly note.

Filling out my collection of level 1 Legendary cards.

I was particularly struck by the card values when looking at the PeakMonster's estimate for my collection's value recently. After I sold off my Alien World's tokens and bought Gold Foil Untamed cards for Brawls, my collection was showing as being worth a few hundred dollars. Right now it's showing as being worth more than $10,000 (though, the Gold Foil Byzantine Kitty I opened counts for a fair chunk of that total.)

As noted at the start, I basically missed the end of the season. I think I could have made top 25 in Silver, as I was in the mid-30s coming into the last day. I managed to use the mobile app to jump myself up to Gold II right before the season ended. I had enough rating to go to Gold I, but was short 3,000 collection power and couldn't seem to undelegate cards via the mobile app.

Nice to get another epic Summoner, though little else of note here.

My InvestYGator account's only reward of note this past week was a Gold Foil Harvester (common monster). With rental cancellations, and my inability to get back on, that account ended up back in Bronze II after the season reset. I did join a little guild with him, and spent some time delegating more cards to make the account a bit more playable without rentals. But, a lot more time would need to be spent to really get his collection to where I can get the account back into Gold again.

For the upcoming season, I feel like I may be in a better position to try for a paying spot on the Silver leaderboard. I'm still missing Llama and Yodin, but the Byzantine Kitty is also quite a powerful summoner. Time is more of a concern, as helping out with support tends to quickly eat up many hours in the day if you let it. They've been bringing in more help, but the recent server issues have had swarms of people coming in asking about when they will be fixed.

Almost a year of playing Splinterlands, since the seasons aren't quite the same as weeks! I feel like I should do something special for my next article, but I haven't decided what yet. Anyhow, about time to wrap things up! Thank you for reading, and if you have any questions or feedback please let me know in the comments below!
