[Part 11] - The journey through Splinterlands: Why Splinterlands is appealing to me (and perhaps to you as well)

Why people play certain games differs from person to person, that's why it's impossible to create a game that everybody likes. But when people ask me what games I play and why I play them, I usually need to think for some time and then forget half of the reasons why I play a certain game. Over the last couple of weeks this has happened several times, so I am creating a list why I think Splinterlands is a fun game, that is worth checking out:

Play To Earn

Let's be honest: Who doesn't want to earn money from playing games online? Unfortunately you have to be really good in most of the games to actually earn money by playing. Splinterlands is different. You can earn a couple of dollars worth every season, by consistently playing. If you get lucky this can increase of course, but even if you don't find those gold foil legendaries worth hundreds of dollars, you will still increase the worth of your collection.

Easy to Start - Hard to Master

The game is very beginner friendly. You get some cards you can use and put them on the field. As simple as that. But the higher your ranking gets the more important your strategy becomes. Which summoners/monsters do I choose? Where do I put certain monsters to maximize my winning chances? With each battle you do, you learn a little bit more about the game. Specific card combinations might be advantageous in certain rulesets, but devastating in others. Strategy is a deciding factor within the game and lets good players earn higher tiers, even without maxed cards.

Collectibles

I remember in my childhood I loved to collect Pokemon Cards. I never knew how to play them, but I liked to show my collection to friends and trade cards with them. Splinterlands allows you to do the same in a very similar fashion, even though it is an online game. Because every card is part of the Hive Blockchain you really own the card and can do whatever you like with it. Sell, trade, upgrade and even burning your cards is a possibility. All the aspects from real life trading card games are incorporated into Splinterlands.

Community

I said it before and I'll say it again: The Splinterlands community is probably the nicest gaming community out there. Everyone tries to help beginners ramp up in the game. Questions, even if the same one was asked thousands of times before, are happily answered within minutes. The Splinterlands support does an amazing job in resolving issues. Overall a very pleasant experience and you miss out on it, if you don't join their discord server.

Gateway to learn about Cryptocurrencies

image.png

When I started playing, all I knew about cryptocurrencies was the name Bitcoin. I've learned a lot about how to transfer the in-game currency Dark Energy Crystals to Hive and from there to other platforms (like peakmonster for renting cards). Things seem overwhelmingly complicated at first, but once you know how the different pieces work together you are able to fully utilize everything cryptocurrencies have to offer.

What are your reasons to play Splinterlands?
Do you agree/disagree with the points mentioned?
