O steem what have you become! For some you have become a great way of income, for other you have become a big deal of frustrations!

While we all did think that the reward pool abuse would be decreased it just have shifted.
In the old steem everybody had a chance to buy some votes. Okay some did this abusively, but most of us moderately!
Now the power is in the hand of a few! I also had the idea that the #newsteem would be great for the big stake holders and for most just a pain in the ass! And I guess I can say that my gut feeling was correct!

There used to be days that trending was ruled by the ones who did buy the votes and tried to enrich themselves of did try to promote their article! Now a days, maybe 10 to 15 accounts do rule who is on trending or not!
The only thing you have to do is to write post with content which is in the alley of these accounts! If you don’t do this, you will be forced to the dark side of steem! The dark side where those big accounts never will show up! It doesn’t matter how good your article is, if the content isn’t in their alley you won’t be noticed! It doesn’t matter if you wrote you own analysis or opinion about something! It will be considered garbage maybe even reward pool rape. Because like we all know in the #newsteem, quality will be rewarded! So, if you post is below a certain threshold, it can be consider rubbish. Isn’t it?

Yes those big accounts will throw an upvote here or there! But most of the VP will be used on their circle! Regardless if the content is up to par or not! Just like we all do belong to such a circle!

People are even delegating SP to accounts who do the flagging for them! With no idea who or what will be flagged. Strange isn’t it!
We even have a lot of small accounts who do nothing else but flagging! Okay they would cost you a dime, but still what is the purpose of this!

Most people did discover steem when searching for crypto related news, opinions or content! These days there just isn't enough content which would rank high enough on the search engines, so not a lot of new people will discover steem! The problem is that most of us all do want to get the upvotes so write steem related content because that most of the time does well!
We really should need more post with opinions about a big spectrum of topics! But most of us do stop with this because these kind of post don't get rewarded very well!

So, yes the newsteem is not my cup of tea! Luckily there is steemmonsters which does keep me on board! Which is my best investment so far on the steem blockchain!
Let’s be honest would you try to convince your friends these days to try out steem?

Cheers,
Peter

Some real talk there ....
Looks like the blogging aspect of the Steem blockchain is down a bit these days. As things stand at the moment gaming is on the top. Maybe we need to sell this aspect of it .... we have a success story to sell with SM... for now.

From my perspective if you dont find any big players to support you, its almost impossible to function around here with the current prices.

This can be achieved with real businesses coming to the blockchain, acquiring stake and then support there user base with it, according to their standards. That is something that makes sense.

Anyways having this situation is a good thing to think a bit of how we do things around here .... never waste a good crisis :) .... once we moon/if all the problems will be under the carpet...

It indeed puts everything in perspective.
We knew that not everything #newsteem would bring us would be gold but a little bit if gold dust would have been nice.

Yeah, it's just another devil and the funny part is they see no issue with punting steem content and perpetuating the stereotypes you've mentioned. The so called curation programs started with a bang but the voting circles are still pretty strong so this is what we're stuck with for now. Will communities help? I don't know

Also, many of the authors they do support regularly are authors who sell so they're never going to pass on rewards or help others by getting larger accounts and then curating so the rewards kind of stop there. I thought the whole theory was to build up other accounts who would then form a larger base for curation but it doesn't seem to be happening

One will only delegate to a curation project of they get support of the curation project.
So they have become more or less upvote projects.

It's exactly as you say, right now unless you are inside the curation circle bending your way to make very specific posts that do well it is extremely hard to get anything going. Add to that that everyone who has some SP trying to create a real community is unable to do so because the non-linear reward curve punishes you each time you want to support someone who is just getting started or has lower payouts in general. It was hard enough to get something like the SBC going on the 'old steem', this would be impossible today.

The strange thing to me is that this entire "new Steem honest curation idea" is so easily debunked, yet all you see on the trending page is people cheering it on. I can't see the steem price going anywhere but down (compared to the crypto market until the system changes). There is literally no valid reason to power up while the selling pressure remains.

Steemmonster is the only thing that gets it right. code is the rule and there are no guidelines meaning everyone can do what they want and when there is abuse the system is blamed for it. The New Steem rules are just extremely inconsistent, hypocritical, not scalable, ... It's abuse to convert SPORTS into a Steem upvote with the community SP while it's ok to convert AFIT into Steem upvotes, circle voting is not ok yet the ones who use their big free downvotes (which gives their own post bigger payouts by the way) do it themselves to a certain extent.

I'm still enjoying the process of blogging (regardless the payouts) and still hope that one day the reward pool is just removed (it's the cause of all evil on steemit) and replaced by a proof of stake algorithm which I can see working. Make curation come from tips directly out of peoples wallets (which would be the only real honets curation) and all the BS would be instantly fixed. (Blatant Abuse, post2mine, pretend2care, upvote4upvote, Selfupvoting, vote selling,...) on top it would give extra reasons to invest as the tech itself is pretty awesome.

If they wanted to remove the focus on rewards they have accomplished the opposite.

It's a phase I hope,
By the way, NewSteem was about marketing and culture, not about the reward control possy.
