Divine Splinterlands: The Divine Sorceress

avatar

If I have to be really honest... the Divine Sorceress is not a card that I really play that much of. For the 3 mana (or the extra position slot...) I don't find that she has a really great damage/survivability.

My Divine Sorceress is currently at level 5, which as an epic level card is the highest level that can be played by my current level of summoners (I'm not really sure that I'm ever going to have a higher level of summoners, so I'm not actively trying to level up the Divine Sorceress!).

However, in the interests of this post... I'm going to give her a bit of a run to see if there is much use in this neglected card!

The Battle

In this battle, I was playing the Life Splinter as part of an ongoing "No Neutrals" daily quest. This made for the perfect opportunity to try out the Divine Sorceress as I had more positions open due to the fact that I was aiming to exclude the Neutral monsters. It also helped that this particular battle had the "No Legendaries" condition which further limited my card selection!

So, for this battle.. I've gone for a survivability sort of selection. The Silvershield Paladin coupled with the Divine Healer and Armoursmith (I'm never going to spell that as "armor"...) makes for a pretty solid tank front position (no Arianthusi and no Unicorns...). I've added the Peacekeeper as the damage dealer and the Crystal Werewolf to debuff the enemy magic attacks and to foil rear attacks.

Grudgingly, I've added in the Divine Sorceress in the second position to act as a defence in depth for the two support units (Divine Healer and Armoursmith)....

The enemy team is all armoured up... ouch, and both sides have debuffed each other in the Magic dealing stakes. Hmmm... I should do okay, as I can always regenerate armour with the Armoursmith!

Round 1: Nothing much of interest happens here, just testing the two sides. However, that Feasting Seaweed on the opposing team is going to wreck my Amoursmith in two turns! It hits hard... maybe my faith in the regeneration of the Paladin armour is misplaced!

Round 2: Damn... Armoursmith down! That Feasting Seaweed is nasty! However, I do manage to take down the enemy tank with the Peacekeeper. This is critical, now it is a race to get the other team down (past their armour) before the Feasting Seaweed makes a mess of my Divine Healer...

Round 3: WOW! The Feasting Seaweed went after the Divine Sorceress... who nullifies the attack with the Divine Shield (seriously... is everything just divine?.... now the word looks weird...). I'm going to win this! It will take 4 hits (including that nullified attack) to take down the Sorceress (sorry, Divine Sorceress) before the non-divine Feasting Seaweed can start on the Healer (Divine Healer...).

By Round 4, the Feasting Seaweed is in the first position, which means that he (it?) is effectively nullified.... and unable to cause damage to my supports. This is all due to the Divine Sorceress taking the fire, and getting an extra turn of life due to the Divine Shield!

Game over!

Conclusion

Okay... I grudgingly accept that the Divine Sorceress is a decent card in the right situations. For the Life splinter, survivability is the key... healing and armour regeneration are key aspects fo the splinter.

The Divine Sorceress and her Divine Shield means that she is able to completely nullify a single first attack on her. Depending on the situation, this could nullify a critical game-deciding attack... giving the Life team a crucial extra turn of life and damage potential.

This is the key point of the Divine Sorceress... not the magic damage dealing ability... not the health and not the speed. It is the ability to absorb and turn away a single attack. After all, if you can't survive the enemy barrage... it doesn't matter how much damage you can deal out when you are face down in the ground!

For a low mana game, this could be a critical ability... as the card is only 3 mana to play... and it would give the entire team just that little bit of extra survivability as cards take one turn longer to be attacked. Interesting, I'm going to have to experiment a bit more with this unexpected gem!

... divine gem....

First things first: YES. Everything is Divine. 🤣
Dude. Khymeria is a weird place. They don't even have no-no parts for sexytimes... they are all divinely created and delivered by a flying white tiger name Kraulis. #lore 😎

I honestly am still not super sure how much I will use 'Little Miss Sorceress'. Yes. TOTALLY in Little League when I have spaces to fill. And yes, that fancy shield she has is quite useful, especially with her lower health.

Oh! And I've had my eye on everything with the opportunity ability lately. That thing is awesome!

Thanks for the anything other than what's been going on post. 😘 I agree, it's a welcomed break.

Ahhhhhh.... I am lost for words... I never really looked that closely at the cards! Is this now official canon?

I'm in the air about Opportunity... but I have noticed that it works sometimes when I don't expect the rules to allow it! Very handy...
