Splinterlands: Last time in the Champion league?

avatar

We have come to the end of another season on Splinterlands. I have done the daily challenges just about every day and gained a few nice cards, but sometimes I would just get one or two cards plus DEC and potions. The extra DEC has allowed me to upgrade a few cards. I aim to level up more summoners to Level 5 so I can exploit my cards better. I made it to Champion II again, but this may be the last time that happens for some time.

Champ II
Of my 120 'loot chests' 36 were cards with a few rare and epic plus one legendary (valued at $1.86).

Cards

I got about 2000 more DEC. I could buy another pack, but do not quite have enough for an Azmare Dice pack. I am wondering how useful that would be to me if it means starting from scratch with a different set of cards. I went for buying another summoner card instead.

The reason I may not make Champion again is the implementation of colleciton power. The total value of your cards affects what leagues you can play in. Mine total just over 200k, so I can get to Gold I once this comes into play. @splinterlands say it is scheduled for tomorrow, but the season started today and I am currently in Diamond II. If Gold I is the best I can do then I can only win up to 30 chests each season and my daily winnings will decrease too.

So it looks like this change could be a disincentive for many people to keep playing. Those who got in early or spent a lot of cards can keep winning hundreds of cards with less competition from us commoners. One advantage of the change is that most of the 'bot' accounts will make even less as they seem to keep a minimal set of cards to use. This one could not rise above Silver III.

Bot

I will have to see how it goes in the coming months. I really play for fun rather than profit. Meeting less bots could make it more fun, but I will not be able to level up as quickly. I am not looking to spend other funds on cards for now.

How do you feel about this change?

If you are not already playing you can start here. You will have to buy some cards to start playing, but I can delegate cards to people who use my referral link.

I think I have been playing for about a year and invested only the initial 10$ and perhaps another 10$. Been doing the quests as often as possible, but would consider myself still just a casual player. I have about 85k power which brings me to Silver III so not sure if this is average or not for the time spent on this game. Feels like I should rather be playing in Diamond league. But will see how it develops as I also rather play the game for the fun of it and not for the bucks

I did spend some of the Steem I cashed out after the fork on some good cards. I have not kept track of my total spending. I know others have spent a lot and have collections worth thousands of dollars, but if some people decide to sell up their cards and leave then the value will fall.

Good point. I hope it doesn't have such a big impact or that the creators will listen.

I play for the Bucks in it.
There are lots of portions nowadays in the chest.
If only it could converted to DEC as well that could be lovely.
Nice rank.
I always end up at Diamond III

I can't get that excited about potions. They do not seem to do me much good. Oh well, it's just a game. I am playing a couple of others too on Hive.

I don't know what league I will be limited too yet but it won't be too high up on the list, I think I have something under 70k, but that is also my fault for not playing the game for a long time.

My season end cards were...eh but no matter, it's still a great game.

As the biggest game on Hive I hope it can still keep the enthusiasm of players, but I suspect there are a lot of those bot accounts that just sell cards they win. I hope it is still fun for you.

I had no clue this change was coming into play. I bought some dice today, but I am not sure how much I am going to keep buying them. The fact that they are coming out with new cards so quickly really devalues some of the old cards I had. That kind of turns me off. I understand they need to keep it fresh, but it should always add value to your cards, not take it away.

If you have invested in levelling up old cards then it's not so interesting to take on new ones. We shall see if any big players give up on it.

I thought the Power thing had already been implemented. It does seem punitive for people who have spent a 'reasonable' amount on the game - I mean hundreds, rather than pushing into the $1K mark! I think you need a deck worth about $1K to qualify for Champions now.

I can see how it could be demotivating, but I guess they're thinking about new players coming in - for them this will just seem normal.

They are very 'business first' the Splinterlands duo!

I am sure they have thought hard about this, so we will have to see what impact it has. I wonder what proportion of players spend hundreds on it. It is possible to play your way up the leagues though if you give enough time to it.

Those enminers bots are annoying as hell. Sort of glad to see those bot accounts get screwed, unfortunate for people that have been playing awhile though and haven't built up their deck.

I haven't looked into this at all but I'm curious to see where I rank in this new system. I haven't sold a single card since I started playing. I'm pretty sure I have horrible luck with legendary cards though. I just don't seem to get as many as I used to when I first started playing. I've been curious about the actual value of my deck for awhile now.

So far most of the changes have been improvements for the game. I was a little skeptical of the loot chests but have really grown to love that system. If this helps get rid of all the bots, it could be another improvement. We'll see. I do love those Champion League rewards though! I guess I'll find out where I'm at in all this soon enough.
