The Battle of the Alamo (February 23-March 6, 1836) was a crucial military conflict in the Texas Revolution that consisted of a 13-day siege. He faced the Mexican army, led by President Antonio López de Santa Anna, against a militia of Texas secessionists, mostly American settlers, in San Antonio de Béxar, in the then Mexican province of Coahuila y Texas (today the state of Texas, U.S).
All but two of the belligerents for the Republic of Texas were killed, inspiring many Texan settlers — and American adventurers — to join the Texas Army.
