The Battle of the Alamo (February 23-March 6, 1836) was a crucial military conflict in the Texas Revolution that consisted of a 13-day siege. He faced the Mexican army, led by President Antonio López de Santa Anna, against a militia of Texas secessionists, mostly American settlers, in San Antonio de Béxar, in the then Mexican province of Coahuila y Texas (today the state of Texas, U.S).

All but two of the belligerents for the Republic of Texas were killed, inspiring many Texan settlers — and American adventurers — to join the Texas Army. Animated by the desire for revenge, from the cruelty shown by Santa Anna during the siege, the Texans defeated and massacred the Mexican army while they slept in the battle of San Jacinto, on April 21, 1836, putting an end to the revolutionary movement.
