Expansions, explosion and mixed emotion in Splinterlands land development

Its not every time you jump at something because its new and all up in everyone's face, sometimes one needs to breathe and understand what is taking place before getting involved, though some have missed the opportunity of a lifetime by doing so, some others have been lucky enough to be saved from loosing a lifetimes worth of resources by doing so.

Well I'm writing about the Splinterlands land ownership development which is presently the talk of the town.

Its been a couple of days now that the presale took place and was sold out in 21 seconds, it was really wild,

all I saw were updates about the news of the sales here on Hive and on twitter, for a moment I felt left out, for the first time I didn't just gobble things up as I would have, I chose to sit this one out.

One of the most interesting things that caught my attention about the land expansion was the following statement which disclosed the newly abilities to be unlocked.

In the expansion, players will have the ability to alter the course of the battle after they have chosen their team by playing the new Item and Spell cards. Once both players have chosen their team, they will each see both teams laid out on the battlefield, but before the battle begins they will each have a fixed amount of time, and Mana, to play Items and Spells. Read more here

The interesting thing about this update is that for a player to unlock this ability, they must posses a certain amount/type/plot of land which will enable them mint the items and spell cards to activate the ability, the cards and spells won't be sold by Splinterlands, but only minted through players.

The rest of the information is still quite hazy for me, I still have a couple of questions unanswered like "how many items can each land mint"? "are the abilities unlimited"? Are the land prices volatile? And a couple others. Anyway the Splinterlands team have said they will be giving out more information as developments go on. Mehn this sphere is about to blow up!!!! So much going on already, my head is spinning!

This is why I chose to sit this one out and get the hang of things to an extent before delving in, hopefully I'm not too late. Lol

And that's it for this weekends show off folks, if you'd like to join me in having this awesome gaming experience on Splinterlands, here's my referral link, I will walk you step by step in the noobiest way possible.

I was going to buy a tract but I'm quite glad I didn't in the end - I've got 10 plots as part of a pool and another dozen or so coming as part of the uniswap thing. That should be enough.

I'm sure you'll be able to pick up some land for not too much more maybe even less than it's just sold for when the secondary market opens up in a few months!

Well I feel like we're on a kind of calm before the storm really - I'm thinking about what cards to buy to 'make land work' - thinking about agroed's evil capitalist brain I think it's VERY likely summoners might just play a key role in land - i mean if you need summoners to make monsters work in battle, it could be the same with land - so I'm going to focus on making sure i've got a second set of maxed summoners.

I also think having maxed monsters could be key to working the land - with some monsters there's little to gain from taking them to max level in battle - take the diamond dragon for instance, he gets all his buffs at L3 so why pay double just to gain an extra magic point at L4?

I imagine land will change that - they'll probably be a bonus for staking maxed level cards, to make people burn cards to level them up more - that's a sure fire way to increase the value of several underused cards.

I'm feeling it's a VERY good time to buy LESS land right now and pre-emptively buy cards which are currently pretty stagnant in value.

I already bought some cheap legendary maxed BETAS in anticipation. One for each splinter!

I lost track of the sale, I was keeping an eye on it to dive in. I have been too busy of late, no surprise to missing out on some stuff here.
