Blockchain Games: The Future of Gaming!

This is my first post within the Blockchain Gaming community and I am very happy that on Hive there is a community entirely dedicated to blockchain based games.
In fact on Hive there is the beautiful Hive Gaming community but it is focused on all kinds of games and there are the communities of the various blockchain based games such as the Splinterlands community (https://peakd.com/c/hive-13323/created) and the Rising Star community (https://peakd.com/c/hive-195370/created)... but a virtual place to write and share impressions and experiences related exclusively to blockchain based games was not there and so the Blockchain Gaming community has filled a void.

I love decentralisation and therefore I love blockchain games and I firmly believe that they will be the future of the gaming industry.
That's why I play a lot of blockchain-based games and I'm always trying new ones in my spare time.

It will take a long time to reach a mass adoption of blockchain-based games but the number of games is growing as the number of players is growing.
The value and the advantages that blockchain-based games offer to players are still little known concepts and for this reason in this post I wanted to compare two games that are very similar in terms of game play but structured very differently because one is a traditional and centralized game while the other is a blockchain-based game: Hearthstone and Splinterlands.

Hearthstone and Splinterlands

Both Splinterlands and Hearthstone are two collectible card games.
The cards are an important part of both games because they are indispensable elements for battles with other players and, in case of victory, they allow you to receive rewards.

In Hearthstone, players receive an amount of gold coins (this is, of course, in-game gold) as a reward for completing quests in the game or for achieving victories in game mode matches against other players.

Splinterlands players for every battle they win against another player receive tokens called Dark Energy Cristal (DEC).

What can a Hearthstone player do with gold coins?

1. He can buy packs of cards to improve his card collection.
2. Access certain sections of the game to challenge other players (Arena).

What can a Splinterlands player do with DEC tokens?

1. He can buy packs of cards and other game elements (potions, skins, plots).
2. He can buy single cards that are sold by other players on the in-game market.
3. He can buy a tournament entry which can have different types of prizes (DEC tokens, cards...).
4. Can create his own custom tournament.
5. Can transfer them to 5 different wallets and sell them to other people (not necessarily players) in exchange for other cryptocurrencies (HIVE, BNB, BTC...)
6. Can put them to work on two different farms (DeFi) to get passive income (tokens):
   • https://cubdefi.com/ (Binance Smart Chain)
   • https://uniswap.org/ (Ethereum blockchain)
7. He can use them to borrow playing cards from the https://peakmonsters.com/ marketplace.
8. Can use them to create a guild (group of players)
9. Can use them to buy items from other games (e.g. in the Rising Star market and the Dcity market you can use DECs to buy some cards).

Hearthstone gold coins only have value within the game.

DEC tokens have value within the game of Splinterlands but also outside the game and can be converted via exchanges to other cryptocurrencies and tokens and also to fiat currencies (Euro, dollar...)

The Hearthstone cards

Hearthstone cards can only be used within the game and only have value within the game.
Players can also buy packs of cards with real money but cannot transfer packs or individual cards to other players.

The Splinterlands Cards

Splinterlands cards can be used within the game, but can also be:

• sold to other players on the internal Splinterlands marketplace
• transferred and sold on various exchanges outside the Splinterlands game (Hive Engine, Atomic Hub,...)
• transferred to other players instantaneously and without transaction costs (thanks to the Hive blockchain which does not have transaction costs)
• Lend to other players for free
• lent for a set period of time in exchange for a payment on https://peakmonsters.com/
• burned and converted into a certain amount of DEC tokens

Splinterlands card packs can be bought with real money but also with various cryptocurrencies and can be tokenized, transferred and sold on exchanges outside the game such as Hive Engine or Atomich Hub.

Hearthstone cards are simple game elements.

Cards in Splinterlands are Non Fungible Tokens (NFT) and digital ownership is completely up to the player who owns them who can decide what to do with their cards from a variety of options.

Mode of Access and Transparency

A centralised game like Hearthstone requires a registration before you can start playing, which is set by the producer of the game, which in the case of Heartstone is the famous Blizzard.
A game from another company requires a new and different registration process

A blockchain-based game like Splinterlands requires the same login credentials as the blockchain on which it was developed and on which the game's transactions are made: Hive.

With the same credentials you can access any other game that runs on Hive such as Rising Star, Dcity and Dcrops.

What differentiates a blockchain-based game from a centralized game is in particular transaction transparency.

On Hearthstone I can't see all the transactions made by each player, for example I can't know how many packs of cards another player has bought or the contents of the pack of cards any other player has opened.

On Splinterlands I can see every other player's game activity, I can see every player's card collection and I can also know the value of any card collection. I can reconstruct the purchase and transfer activity of every single card in the game.

A blockchain-based game therefore also offers advantages in terms of ease of access and transparency over a centralised game.

There are other games I'd like to check out and try out like Lost Relics, Prospectors, Hashkings but I haven't had the time to do so yet.
Other blockchain based games I hope to learn about through reading the posts published within the Blockchain Gaming community and through interaction with other users.

The creators of the Blockchain Gaming community on Hive have also created a website that I have viewed and enjoyed because it explains very well all the aspects and advantages of a blockchain game.

Conclusion

The intent of my post is in no way to speak ill of a game like Hearthstone but only to point out the differences between a centralized game and a blockchain-based game.
Blizzard has created a really good and fun game.
Hearthstone is also a very graphically beautiful game and has a lot more animations than Splinterlands.
I tried both games and I enjoyed playing both of them but I chose to play only Splinterlands because in addition to being a fun game is a game in which I am not just a player but I am also a small investor because I have cards and tokens that belong to me and that have a concrete value and not just play.
As a small investor I feel part of a project as well as being a happy player.
I've been playing Splinterlands for about 20 months and I still enjoy it as much as I did the first day.
Every month I write a report where I evaluate Splinterlands only from a financial point of view.
In the following image you can see the profit and Roi that I have made after 19 months of playing and an investment of 313$.

Blockchain-based games are still little known, and more importantly, the many benefits they offer and can prospectively offer their players are still little known.

A game like Heartstone has millions of active players (more than 23 million in 2020) while a game like Splinterlands has about 7000 active players.

The distance between blockchain games and traditional games is still considerable but it is only a matter of time...

I chose as cover image a wave of the sea because I believe that in the future blockchain based games will overtake traditional and centralized games and the overcoming will happen with the shock force of a high and beneficial wave.
When this wave arrives I hope to be riding the wave on a surfboard with the logo of Splinterlands or some other decentralized game on it instead of being surprised and overwhelmed while sitting on a couch playing Hearthstone or Fortnite :)

Blockchain Games: Il Futuro dei Videogames!

Questo è il mio primo post che pubblico all'interno della comunità Blockchain Gaming e sono molto contento che su Hive ci sia una comunità interamente dedicata ai giochi basati su blockchain.
Infatti su Hive c'è la bellissima comunità di Hive Gaming che però è incentrata su tutti i tipi di giochi e ci sono le comunità dei vari giochi basati su blockchain come ad esempio la comunità di Splinterlands (https://peakd.com/c/hive-13323/created) e la comunità di Rising Star (https://peakd.com/c/hive-195370/created)... ma un luogo virtuale in cui scrivere e condividere le proprie impressioni ed esperienze relative esclusivamente ai giochi basati su blockchain non c'era e quindi la comunità Blockchain Gaming ha colmato un vuoto.

Amo la decentralizzazione e di conseguenza amo i giochi basati su blockchain e sono fermamente convinto che saranno il futuro del settore dei videogames.
Per questo motivo gioco a diversi giochi basati su blockchain e nel mio tempo libero cerco di provarne sempre di nuovi.

Ci vorrà ancora molto tempo per arrivare ad un'adozione di massa dei giochi basati su blockchains ma il numero di giochi sta crescendo come sta crescendo anche il numero dei giocatori.
Il valore e i vantaggi che i giochi basati su blockchain offrono ai giocatori sono concetti ancora poco conosciuti e per questo motivo in questo post ho voluto confrontare due giochi molto simili tra loro per quanto riguarda il game play ma strutturati in modo molto diverso perchè uno è un gioco tradizionale e centralizzato mentre l'altro è un gioco basato su blockchain: Hearthstone e Splinterlands.

Hearthstone e Splinterlands

Sia Splinterlands che Hearthstone sono due giochi di carte collezionabili.
Le carte sono una parte importante di entrambi i giochi perchè sono elementi indispensabili per poter svolgere le battaglie con gli altri giocatori e, in caso di vittoria, permettono di ricevono dei premi.

Su Hearthstone i giocatori ricevono una quantità di monete di oro (ovviamente è oro di gioco) come premio per il completamento delle missioni del gioco o per il conseguimento delle vittorie in partite in modalità di gioco contro altri giocatori.

I giocatori di Splinterlands per ogni battaglia vinta contro un altro giocatore ricevono dei token che si chiamano Dark Energy Cristal (DEC)

Cosa può fare un giocatore di Hearthstone con le monete d'oro?

1. Può comprare pacchi di carte per migliorare la propria collezione di carte.
2. Può accedere ad alcune sezioni del gioco per sfidare altri giocatori (Arena).

Cosa può fare un giocatore di Splinterlands con i token DEC?

1. Può comprare pacchi di carte e altri elementi del gioco (pozioni, skin, plots).
2. Può comprare singole carte messe in vendita da altri giocatori sul mercato interno al gioco.
3. Può comprare l'iscrizione ad un torneo che può avere diversi tipi di premi (token DEC, Carte...)
4. Può creare un proprio torneo personalizzato.
5. Può trasferirli su 5 wallet diversi e venderli ad altre persone (non necessariamente giocatori) in cambio di altre criptovalute (HIVE, BNB, BTC...)
6. Può metterli a lavorare su due diverse farm (DeFi) per ottenre un'entrata passiva (tokens):
   • https://cubdefi.com/ (Binance Smart Chain)
   • https://uniswap.org/ (Ethereum blockchain)
7. Può utilizzarli per prendere in fitto carte di gioco dal mercato di https://peakmonsters.com/
8. Può utilizzarli per creare una gilda (gruppo di giocatori)
9. Può utilizzarli per comprare elementi di altri giochi (ad esempio nel mercato di Rising Star e nel mercato di Dcity è possibile utilizzare i DEC per comprare alcune carte).

Le monete d'oro di Hearthstone hanno valore solo all'interno del gioco.

I token DEC hanno valore all'interno del gioco di Splinterlands ma anche all'esterno e possono essere convertiti tramite gli exchanges in altre cryptovalute e token e anche in moneta Fiat (Euro, dollaro...)

Le carte di Hearthstone possono essere utilizzate solo all'interno del gioco e hanno valore solo all'interno del gioco.
I giocatori possono comprare pacchi di carte anche con denaro reale ma non possono trasferire i pacchi di carte o le singole carte ad altri giocatori.

Le carte di Splinterlands

Le carte di Splinterlands possono essere utilizzate all'interno del gioco ma possono essere:

• vendute ad altri giocatori sul mercato interno di Splinterlands
• trasferite e vendute su diversi exchange esterni al gioco di Splinterlands (Hive Engine, Atomic Hub,...)
• trasferite ad altri giocatori instantaneamente e senza costi ti transazione (grazie alla blockchain di Hive che non prevede costi di transazione)
• prestate ad altri giocatori in modo gratuito
• prestate per un periodo di tempo prestabilito in cambio di un pagamento su https://peakmonsters.com/
• bruciate e convertite in un certo quantitativo di token DEC

I pacchi di carte di Splinterlands posso essere comprati con denaro reale ma anche con diverse criptovalute e possono essere tokenizzati, trasferiti e venduti su exchange esterni al gioco come Hive Engine o Atomich Hub.

Le carte di Hearthstone sono semplici elementi di gioco.

Le carte di Splinterlands sono Non Fungible Tokens (NFT) e la proprietà digitale è completamente del giocatore che le possiede che può decidere cosa fare con le sue carte scegliendo tra tante opzioni possibili.

Un gioco basato su blockchain come Splinterlands richiede le stesse credenziali di accesso della blockchain sulla quale è stato sviluppato e sulla quale sono effettuate le transazioni del gioco: Hive.

Con le stesse credenziali è possibile accedere a qualsiasi altro gioco che funziona su Hive come ad esempio Rising Star, Dcity e Dcrops.

Quello che però differenzia un gioco basato su blockchain rispetto ad un gioco centralizzato è in particolare la trasparenza delle transazioni.

Su Heartstone io non posso vedere tutte le transazioni effettuate da ogni giocatore, ad esempio non posso conoscere quanti pacchi di carte ha comprato un altro giocatore o il contenuto del pacco di carte che ha aperto un qualsiasi altro giocatore.

Su Splinterlands posso vedere l'attività di gioco di ogni altro giocatore, posso vedere la collezione di carte di ogni giocatore e posso conoscere anche il valore di qualsiasi collezione di carte. Posso ricostruire l'attività di acquisto e trasferimento di ogni singola carta del gioco.

Un gioco basato su blockchain offre quindi anche vantaggi in termini di facilità di accesso e trasparenza rispetto ad un gioco centralizzato.

Conclusione

L'intento di questo mio post non è assolutamente quello di parlare male di un gioco come Hearthstone ma solo quello di sottolineare le differenze tra un gioco centralizzato e un gioco basato su blockchain.
La Blizzard ha creato un gioco davvero bello e divertente.
Hearthstone è un gioco anche molto bello graficamente e ha molte più animazioni di Splinterlands.
Ho provato entrambi i giochi e mi sono divertito a giocare ad entrambi ma ho scelto di giocare solo a Splinterlands perchè oltre ad essere un gioco divertente è un gioco in cui non sono un semplice giocatore ma sono anche un piccolo investitore perchè ho carte e token che appartengono a me e che hanno un valore concreto e non solo ludico.
In quanto piccolo investitore mi sento parte di un progetto oltre ad essere un felice giocatore.
Gioco a Splinterlands da circa 20 mesi e mi diverto ancora come il primo giorno.
Ogni mese scrivo un report dove valuto Splinterlands solo dal punto di vista finanziario.
Nell'immagine seguente puoi vedere il profitto e il Roi che ho ottenuto dopo 19 mesi di gioco e a fronte di un investimento di 313$.

I giochi basati su blockchain sono ancora poco conosciuti e soprattutto sono ancora poco conosciuti i tanti vantaggi che offrono e che possono offrire in prospettiva ai propri giocatori.

La distanza che separa i blockchain games e i giochi tradizionali è ancora notevole ma è solo questione di tempo...

Ho scelto come immagine di copertina un onda del mare perchè credo che in futuro i giochi basati su blockchain supereranno i giochi tradizionali e centralizzati e il superamento avverrà con la forza d'urto di un'alta e benefica onda.
Quando quest'onda arriverà spero di trovarmi a cavalcare l'onda su una tavola da surf con sopra il logo di Splinterlands o di qualche altro gioco decentralizzato invece di essere sorpreso e travolto mentre sono seduto su un divano a giocare ad Hearthstone o a Fortnite :)
