Splinterlands | Mitica Headhunter Challenge
The Mitica Headhunter is one of those cards I honestly never heard of before seeing it in the battle challenge this week. I did own exactly 1 card but can't remember ever using it. The 8 Mana cost for 5 health with no protection are its weak points while the piercing ability along with the 5 ranged damage and high speed are strong points. The snare ability which takes away fly ability from opponents that are hit is totally neglectable. Right now there is no card yet that has both Fly & Snare which would be a perfect counter for games with a ruleset where non-flying monsters get hit by 2 damage at the start of each round. Something like a 1 ranged damage, 1 health and 1 Armor with both Fly and Snare abilities for 3 mana might be a useful addition to the game.
So I tried out the card in a match with high mana (38) and both the Close Range Rule (allowing ranged monsters to attack from 1st position) & the Heavy Hitters Rule Dealing double damage to stunned enemies. The Chain Golem with both Armor, Shield, and Void abilities is always good as a first-place tank in matches like this especially with the Centauri Mage which regenerates armor and reflects ranged damage. I recently upgraded my Earth Elemental from level 4 to level 5 which gives it 1 extra Health. This was followed by the Mitica Headhunter which I only have at level 1. The Wood Nymph always helps to give extra health and regenerate it while the Spirit Shaman offers some protection in the back with the Divine shield while also possibly (50%) stunning the first-place card of the opponent for double damage.
The game ended in a fairly easy win, not so much because I outplayed the opponent but because my average card level was simply higher. This remains the main complaint I have about the game week after week as pure from a gameplay perspective it is way too heavy on the pay2win factor which takes most of the fun out of it.
For as far as my verdict goes on the Mitica Headhunter, there don't seem to be any rulesets where it really makes all the difference. I'm sure it is useful in some rare cases (for example High mana battle only Earth Summoner allowed). Since getting a complete collection especially at higher summoner levels can get really expensive especially for players that look to get a good return, I won't be buying more myself right now.

Important: Treat games in the first place as games and not as investment opportunities, Splinterlands allows you to earn some money and get good returns but you are much better off flipping burgers in Mcdonalds when looking at the money earned for the time invested. Investing also comes with a risk of card values going down.
