Get the spellbook before too long once you have figured out if it seems like something for you. Eventually you could cash your cards out to regain the losses or farm DEC to use on the blockchain. If you are seeing this post and haven't done that I strongly recommend. Cards purchases with in game grindable currency and gameplay is limited before that.

1. Which cards should I buy? Why?: You shouldn't merely purchase cards that are just filler to pad your collection to advance in league position, because once you are there the strategic difficulty and meta increase. If you purchase strategic cards by this point you will be ready for your new league position. The cheaper cards are a bit cheaper usually because they are more specialized or less flexible. Value can also depend on general public use, some cards are merely cheap because the cards themselves don't see much use. Golden cards are necessary for certain tournaments. but not in your early purchases. Purchase based on which splinters seem to fit your playstyle etc, at first. Later on you will need to develop all of them to counterpick.
2. Make sure your DEC Capture rate is below 100 percent and to do your daily mission when possible: This only requires a couple minutes here or there a little bit of time a few times a week.
3. Summoners are very important for your strategy. Don't underestimate picking an unexpected summoner. This can throw off an opponent even if you maintain the same splinter pick in succession.
4. The furious chicken is a great spacer and heavily under rated. It is rare for a reason.
5. Have fun, if you aren't enjoying playing the game it isn't worth it. Thankfully splinterlands has a little depth of play and fair balance. Goodluck and See you in the Splinterlands!
