LIFE SAPPER: Game Changing Bait

avatar

Hi, welcome back again to my Splinterlands weekly battle challenge. This is my second entry for this week, which we have LIFE SAPPER as our main theme. I have my first entry here:

Shorten lore: Life sappers are in between life and death. One side of their body is ghostly while the other is alive and well. They are neither fully living nor dead.

We all already knew about this LIFE SAPPER. I wouldn't need to make any repost from my previous post above. The first battle challenge was more like I am poking our friendly neighborhood curator @alokkumar121 by defeating him in a brawl match.

In this second battle challenge I tried to utilize LIFE SAPPER in a more complicated situation. There were two things that intrigued me by looking a specific mechanic how this monsters would perform special.

  • Strength : Life leech ability, he will grow big and bigger as the battle progresses
  • Weakness : low health, most of the time we see this monster dies first without doing something significant

This two were contradiction, why would a small health monsters with small attacks grow it's health? So this was my quest to find the right Ruleset to see if this monster could utilize those two contradicting ability-stat.

Battle Preparation

I was looking for Opportunity ruleset, which I could bring monsters to hit LIFE SAPPER but it should not killed him instanty. So these were the rulesets I found:

image.png

  • EQUAL OPPORTUNITY ~ All Monsters have the Opportunity ability.
  • 27 MANA

This was the most suitable ruleset I found for LIFE SAPPER. Opportunity might make opponent attack him and 27 mana was enough for a bunch of small mana monsters, which would make Life Sapper meet equal size opponents.

PositionCardAbilityPlan and Strategy
Summoner-1 magic damage and -1 healthOur Favorite Chaos Legion Death Summoner
Main TankThornOur Favorite Chaos Legion Death Tank, high hit damage and high health point with only 6 mana requirement.
SecondFlyThis was my main attacker. Fast and high Health. He was the best secondary tank too.
ThirdflyMy First Bait
FourthShieldMy second bait
FifthLife LeechOur main theme for this battle. The third bait
The LastSneakMy second main attackers, using sneak

My main team were originally only these 3 monsters

All had good melee damage, high speed, and good Health. Losing any one of them should be fatal for me.

My bait team were these:

They all had 2 health point. I put Carrion Shade first because I was affraid my opponent would use fast magic attacks. It's a waste if I let Crypt Bettle to take that magic attacks.

It's a Modern Silver League Rank Battle, which my opponent came using a Fire Element. It's hard to say that this was an equal team battle, because my opponent came with a max level silver league monsters (except Uraeus) and he brought that GRUM FIREBLADE.

Round 1

image.png

  • The game started as both party buffing and debuffing their monsters and opponent's monsters.
  • My opponent had 2 range damage, 1 magic damage, and 8 melee damage. Combined all they became 11 damage per turn.
  • My team had 9 melee damage, and 1 magic damage. Combined all became 10 damage per turn.
  • By number, this should be a tie

battle 2 - 1.gif

  • In general what we saw was how their Uraeus and my Life Sapper died in this round. However there was a game changer situation here. Life Sapper died after taking 3 damages from 2 attacks. He should have died from one attack, but due to his life leech, he managed to get extra life.

Round 2

battle 2 - 2.gif

  • Due to my team speed, we managed to wipe out all their backline attackers.
  • Grum was too strong, he killed my windeku

Round 3

battle 2 - 3.gif

  • My team got 2 crucial points in this round, first we managed to get rid his Scavo Hireling. No more armor repair for his Grum
  • Grum failed to hit Pelacor Deceiver. It's major lost

Round 4-5

battle 2 - 45.gif

  • It's 4 vs 1 situation, my team finally defeated GRUM in 2 turns.

Battle Discussion

In general my opponent team came with a better squad, however due to several points below, they lost badly to my team:

  1. Speed factor. My team was faster, so we always hit first. This was one of the reason LIFE SAPPER could blend in well, he wasn't slow.
  2. They only managed to exploit two abilities, Triage and Repair. Other backfired to them. Meanwhile I managed to exploit all my abilities, Life Leech, Fly (dodge), and Thorn.
  3. Did Life Sapper work well in this battle? I think he did, I don't know how others might think... but in the battle which you need many small health monsters as a bait, due to his Life Leech ability, Life Sapper sometimes make a big difference.
