Hi, welcome my second entry post for Splinterlands weekly battle challenge. This week we have DRAGONS theme, so here is my DRAGON for this post:

QUIX THE DEVIOUS

EDITION: CHAOS LEGION

RARITY: LEGENDARY

ELEMENT: DRAGON

TYPE: SUMMONER

MANA : 4

ABILITIES:

  • -1 OPPONENT'S RANGE DAMAGE
  • -1 OPPONENT'S SPEED

Quix the Devious is one of my favorite summoner from Chaos Legion Edition alongside with Thaddius Brood. In my opinion, Quix is a perfect killer for General Sloan and Aquatus, a Riftwatcher summoner.

BATTLE PREPARATION

  • STAMPEDE ~ The Trample ability can trigger multiple times per attack if the trampled Monster is killed.
  • 21 MANA

There wasn't anything special on this ruleset, in fact I thought this was another regular battle. I saw an opportunity to use Quix because the earth was not available, there wouldn't be any Obisidian.

So here was my simple lineup:

PositionCardAbilityPlan and Strategy
Summoner-1 range an -1 SpeedOur main actor for this week. my favorite summoner from Chaos Legion Edition
Main TankFly, Magic ReflectMy favorite tank in Life Element, 2 mana monsters came with 6 health points and very dodgy.
SecondSneakI put him here because Leech was my only Melee Attacker which I thought it wouldn't be killed by 1 hit.
ThirdSlowFrankly speaking, She is my favorite monsters from all Chaos Legion Life element monsters. Not a strong one but would make her team became strong
FourthTank HealMy main support monsters, a healer. I must have one healer in my team.
FifthFlying, OpportunityHarpy was an amazing 2 mana monsters to be chosen. 2 opportunity melee damage was wonderful
LastnoneSame as Harpy, Naga was a great choice for a 2 mana monsters. Almost guaranteed She would hit first

I liked the combination of Time mage and Quix The Devious, because two of them would reduce 2 opponent's speed. This would make all my team move first and hopefully killed their targets before they got hit back

This was a Modern Silver league Rank Battle, a battle of Dragon vs Water Element. I liked this battle and I believed I would win easily because my opponent was using Aquatus, a Summoner from Rift Watcher Edition. Aquatus was not that bad, He was amazing however he would be a flop against opponent who controlled speed...

Round 1

image.png

  • The game started as both party buffing and debuffing their monsters and opponent's monsters.
  • I had 5 melee damage, 2 magic damage, and 3 range damage. Combined damage was 10.
  • My opponent had 1 melee damage, 2 magic damage and 1range damage. Combined damage was 4.
  • Damage wise, there should be something wrong with my opponent. However it was anything wrong, he wanted to play negatively having his Oshannus dodging all attack and delivering backfire damages.

battle 1-1.gif

  • Nothing interesting in this round, only my Harpy killed their Torrent Fiend

Round 2

battle 1-2.gif

  • My Harpy killed Merdalii Guardian this time, and this was the decisive event. His Oshannus could not get healed anymore

Round 3

battle 1-3.gif

  • Again, this time my harpy killed their Supply Runner. 3 kills in a row.
  • For the first time Oshannus made a dodge, damaging 2 to my Leech

Round 4

battle 1-4.gif

  • his Oshannus vs my full team? no chance to win
  • 4 in a row... Harpy was my MVP, killing all opponent monsters by herself

BATTLE DISCUSSION

Did My Strategy Work?

My strategy worked very well. There were 2 strategy on my formation:

  1. Time control. I used Quix and Time Mage to suppress opponent's speed and It worked very well. My team overall faster than their team which ultimately negated their main strategy using Fast Dodgy Tank, Oshannus,
  2. Distributed attack target... this was a double edge approach, which I used regular attack, sneak, and opportunity attack. It could backfire me by having damaging many opponent without killing any. However against someone who put everything on the front line, this approach worked best because I had some attacks bypassing their strong wall.

Why His Aquatus Failed

Aquatus is a great summoner, I never think he is a lame one. This summoner gives BACKFIRE ability to all his monsters, which each of any dodges his team makes, will deliver 2 melee damage

Above is his ultimate defense, a 4 speed tank who can dodge magic attacks. He put a swiftness monsters, which is a good move anyway. However there is one thing he forgets... He doesn't add any evasive ability which is Blind.

If you don't have evasive ability, such as blind, fly, or dodge... your monsters won't be superior in dodging and evading attacks. In another word, Oshannus who has a phase ability, actually not a good tank for Aquatus. He should go with Serpentine Eld or Phantom of Abyss.

I think your opponent had forgot to use some Stealth units. Good strategy, will try.
