Giant Squid: Battle Strategy

Hello friends,
the protagonist of this post is the Giant Squid card, a card that can be very useful in certain circumstances.

To analyze the Giant Squid card I will consider its statistics, the cost in relation to the various levels and its correct use in battle.

Image.png

Giant Squid is a card from the Untamed collection, is a rare card and is a card of the element Water.

It is a good card especially in battles that have certain combat rules.

  • Has an average mana cost (5)
  • Has 2 attack points (Ranged Attack)
  • Has 4 life and has one armor point.
  • Has a low speed (1)
  • Up to and including level 3 has no skills.

Cost, Levels and Evaluations

It's a fairly cheap card.

Its cost is 0.084 $

In the following image you can see the most interesting levels to which you can bring Giant Squid:

Image.png

  • Level 4: It increases its speed points (1 -> 2) and increases its life points (4 -> 5)
    It acquires an ability: Blind.

    Image.png

Thanks to this ability, it's more likely to avoid a melee attack or a ranged attack.

  • Level 7: Increases its attack by one unit (2 -> 3).
Compared to level 4 it increases its armor points (1 -> 2) and increases its speed points (2 -> 3)

  • Level 8: Acquires a second ability: Weaken.

    Image.png

Thanks to this ability all the opponent's cards will have one life less.

When I use Giant Squid

The fighting rules are very important.

If you want to win a battle on Splinterlands you must always pay close attention to the rules of combat.

Fighting rules favorable to Giant Squid

Back to Basics

Image.png

According to this combat rule, all card abilities are canceled.
Giant Squid (Level 1) has no skills and therefore in this circumstance recovers the disadvantage it has with cards that have useful skills.
When the battle rule is Back to Basics the cards with distance attack and the cards with magic attack become very important.

Odd Ones Out

Image.png

When the battle rule is Odd Ones Out the number of cards deployable in battle decreases and Giant Squid becomes a valid and possible choice.

Reverse Speed

Image.png

Level 1 Giant Squid has a speed of 1.
When the battle rule is Reverse Speed its speed corresponds to a speed of 6.
This rule significantly increases Giant Squidd's chance of avoiding attacks.

Close Range

Image.png

When the battle rule is Close Range all distance attack cards lose their biggest disadvantage: they cannot attack from the first position.
This too is therefore a battle rule favorable to Giant Squid.

The ideal situation for Giant Squid?

When the battle has both battle rules: Reverse Speed and Close Range

Now let's see how Giant Squid behaves on the battlefield and let's deepen the discussion on its use.

A battle with Giant Squid

In the battle of this post I had the following conditions to respect:

Image.png

Initial Statistics

If you look at the statistics in the following table, the battle was fairly balanced at the start.

Image.png

As you can see from the following image, I have a slight starting advantage over my opponent related to the attack (+1).

Image.png

While my opponent has an initial advantage (+3) regarding total life plus armor points.

Image.png

My battle formation

As you well know, the maximum number of deployable cards is 7 (1 summoner + 6 monsters).

I chose to deploy (in order of position):

The Kraken - Spirit Miner - Ice Pixies - Giant Squid - Furious Chicken

Alric Stormbringher (Summoner)

First position

Image.png

I put The Kraken (Level 1) in first position.

It is a card that I often deploy in battle when the battle rule is Back to Back and Earthquake
It has many life points and three armor points.
It is an excellent card to deploy in first position.
Its only drawback is the mana cost which is really high.
In the battle of this post it resists three rounds of the earthquake and was of fundamental importance to win the battle.

Second position

Image.png

In second position I put Spirit Miner (Level 1)

A very useful legendary card especially when used with Alric Stormbringher. It has an average mana cost (6) and 6 life.
His attack becomes 3 points and is the only card that survived the battle of this post.

Third position

Image.png

In third position I put Ice Pixies (Level 1).

It has a low mana cost and its attack increases by one thanks to Alric Stormbringher.
It has an average speed (3).
Since it has only one life point, it is a card that must be protected and the ideal position is central.

Fourth position

Image.png

In fourth position I deployed Giant Squid (Level 1).

In the battle of this post she is never attacked and manages to complete two attacks.
Since he is unable to attack from the first position he must always be positioned in the final positions.

Fifth position

Image.png

In fifth position I deployed Furious Chicken (Level 3).

Since it has a zero mana cost, it is an always useful card that I deploy very often.
In the last position it protects Giant Squid from a possible first attack from distance.

Summoner

Image.png

The summoner I chose is Alric Stormbringher Level 4.

Thanks to his ability all my cards with magic attack get one more attack point.

CONCLUSION

Giant Squid is a good card but I don't use it often.
I bought it to participate in the contest.
There are better cards like Water Elemental or Naga WindMaster which both have excellent abilities starting at level 1.

Image.png

However, it is a card that can be useful in minor leagues because it has a good attack.

As for the upgrade to the higher levels from the point of view of the cost / benefit ratio, there are cards that are more convenient to upgrade.
I personally think I can upgrade it to level 4 maximum.

I really like to participate in this contest and if you are registered in Splinterlands you must absolutely participate too.

Haven't you registered on Splinterlands yet?

Giant Squid: Strategia di Battaglia

Ciao amici,

Costo, Livelli e Valutazioni

E' una carta abbastanza economica.

Il suo costo è di 0.084 $

Nell'immagine seguente puoi vedere i livelli più interessanti a cui puoi portare Giant Squid:

image.png

  • Level 4: Aumenta i suoi punti velocità (1 --> 2) e aumenta i suoi punti vita (4 --> 5)
    Acquisisce una abilità: Blind.

    image.png

    Rispetto al livello 4 aumenta i suoi punti armatura (1 --> 2) e aumenta i suoi punti velocità (2 --> 3)

  • Level 8:Acquisisce una seconda abilità: Weaken.

    image.png

Back to Basics

image.png

Odd Ones Out

image.png

The Kraken - Spirit Miner - Ice Pixies - Giant Squid - Furious Chicken

Alric Stormbringher (Evocatore)

Prima posizione

image.png

Ho messo The Kraken (Livello 1) in prima posizione.

Seconda posizione

image.png

In seconda posizione ho messo Spirit Miner (Livello 1)

Terza posizione

image.png

In terza posizione ho messo Ice Pixies (Livello 1).

Quarta posizione

image.png

In quarta posizione ho schierato Giant Squid (Livello 1).

Quinta posizione

image.png

In quinta posizione ho schierato Furious Chicken (Livello 3).
