Macro Economics of Splinterlands & Blundering Management

I'll be frank, I haven't looked into how DEC is managed definitively, but I gather that there is a fixed amount set aside for tournaments, a pool of 'rewards'. It also seems DEC may have been presented as sort of an investment at some point in time. If it was, that was an over-ambitious blunder. A medium of exchange can't effectively act as a medium and an investment, but I digress.

The fact that Splinterlands decided to keep the supply of their DEC relatively fixed but keep releasing new cards is completely backward. We can get into some more complex ideas maybe, but for the purpose of this post, I'll keep it simple below.

Inflationary currencies are not evil. They're actually great. Splinterlands could have offered to match the entry fee of player tournaments, 'augmenting' the rewards for eternity while inflating the DEC (minting more for the rewards). This would be rather predictable, and also sustainable. As more players joined over time, the added supply would have little effect on the underlying value. Also, as time went on, the rewards issued would be smaller in proportion to the existing pool. After some years, the effect of 'inflation' would be practically moot. Literally, they could have incentivized player tournaments and they would be flurishing right now.

Instead, it's an unsustainable gimmick that can't scale according to what PLAYERS want to wager. There's actually really little incentive to play at all! And the long term outlook is even grimmer. Expect to get screwed IMO.

Instead of inflationary DEC as the focus of rewards, they are giving cards and packs, promos, and 'reward' cards. They are literally destroying the game with another type of inflation (cards) that is WAY worse than what the DEC would be. The cards have more unpredictable impacts, unknown to us, a scary investment! With the path they are on, it isn't looking good for card investors.

The route they are on, issuing more 'freebies' believing it will lure people in is a folly! This game is on a clear path of ruin. The fundamentals and management regarding every aspect are flawed and/or corrupt.

As I said, I could write A LOT more, but honestly, comment if you need more.
